Both worthy topics in their own way. Both interesting and current.
But why are they in the same forum?
Why do we not have top-level forum GENERAL DISCUSSION: POLICY AND POLITICS?
We used to have such a thing, back in what Skinner lamented as the "good old days" of DU.
How hard is it to create such a forum?
Latest Breaking News Editorials & Other Articles Political Videos Research Forum General Discussion General Discussion: Policy & Politics General Discussion: Presidency The DU Lounge
There... see how nice that looks?

1. If this was done, then |
|
General Discussion should be called something like "General Discussion - non political" so that all the political topics would go into the politics forum.
I agree sometimes it can seem strange to have such a potpourri of topics in this forum, but at the same time, it can be part of its charm too.

3. Some people like the President forum and that's cool. |
|
It's not hard to add a forum and there's no reason to take away something people like.
But a politics site without a top-level politics forum is kind of weird.

4. personally I like it the way it is. |

easier to follow threads in one forum and GD is a mix of current topics - from petty to serious.

5. A lot of what's posted in GD these days used to be Lounge threads, IMHO... |
|
There is rarely anything political in The Lounge anymore...
