Protesting the deficit commission and a woman throwing a cat in a trash can

Both worthy topics in their own way. Both interesting and current.

But why are they in the same forum?

Why do we not have top-level forum GENERAL DISCUSSION: POLICY AND POLITICS?

We used to have such a thing, back in what Skinner lamented as the "good old days" of DU.

How hard is it to create such a forum?

1. If this was done, then
General Discussion should be called something like "General Discussion - non political" so that all the political topics would go into the politics forum.

I agree sometimes it can seem strange to have such a potpourri of topics in this forum, but at the same time, it can be part of its charm too.

3. Some people like the President forum and that's cool.
It's not hard to add a forum and there's no reason to take away something people like.

But a politics site without a top-level politics forum is kind of weird.

4. personally I like it the way it is.
easier to follow threads in one forum and GD is a mix of current topics - from petty to serious.

5. A lot of what's posted in GD these days used to be Lounge threads, IMHO...
There is rarely anything political in The Lounge anymore...
