2. No. Obama needs a convincing Bad Cop, and Simpson was born for the role.
He's not going anywhere, unless Fox wants him gone.

3. It doesn't matter. Obama showed his "good faith" in creating a
"bi-partisan" commission. He gave them the rope.

If they hang themselves with it - well, Obama did what he could "in good faith".

Some of us saw this coming all along....

4. The Only Reason I Can Think Of That Obama Is Supporting Simpson And Keeping On The Commission Is....
that Obama knows the outcome of the commission and it is to raise the cap on the rich. If that is the reason - than Obama needs Simpson as a Repug to support that. He is looking for that cover so he can say it was a bipartisan commission.

I'm throwing this explanation out there. What are the chances that I'm right on this?

14. I think you are right.
Bob Gates was cover for Obama withdrawing from Iraq and canceling some expensive military programs.

16. Slim to none
Obama stacked the commission with shills who have wanted to do away with SS for years - never mind that it has nothing to do with the deficit.

The president is just going along with the DLC/New Democrat desire to destroy what remains of the New Deal and along with that, what remains of the working & middle classes. And for that he will be well rewarded when he leaves office, just as Clinton was for his contributions to the oligarchy.

17. The chances are damned low.

I would certainly agree that Obama is setting up political cover, but it's not for raising the cap on the rich. He's setting up his cover for raising the eligibility age and making other cuts. This is a replay of the healthcare "debate".

18. Man, I Hope You Are Correct...
But I have my doubts...

If he tossed him, I'd regain my hope, but...

Well... we'll see, won't we ???

5. He probably thinks he's a great "bi-partisan" addition...
...expect Gibbs to sing Simpson's praises tomorrow, and call those on the left "whiners" for questioning Simpson.

10. No, because he's afraid to piss a republican off
I'm guessing he feels it's more important to move forward and not look back. Can't have people accusing him of being an angry black man now, can we?

15. Obama has no desire to remind people he was the one who set the commission up
I think the plan is for him to make as few comments about the commission as possible in a vain effort to give himself cover when they come out with the already agreed on cuts.

19. Simpson and Bowles are Obama's boys
and they will do what the Cat Food Commission is intended to do: make the rich richer, the poor poorer, and the seniors indigent.

22. Lol! But sadly I can see Obama saying that to him.
The selling out will continue until the name of the democrat party is changed to the republican party. But why even change the name since they are caving in to almost every republican they can find. Democrats are acting like a person who is so desperate to be mugged they are running through the dark alleys of a big city with money sticking out of every pocket hoping they can find a mugger who knocks them out and steals their money.

Maybe we should all chip in and begin to send tens of thousands if little white flags to democrats who are surrendering to republicans by giving in and selling out. It would make the news and maybe shame democrats into finding backbones.
