But with the number of trolls stopping by here now, it sometimes SEEMS like teabaggerunderground, doesn't it?

It's probably a consequence of Google's new policy of bumping DU up in search results. That brings in new members, which is good. But it also brings in a hell of a lot of trolls. And the increased troll activity explains why we see so many threads on recs and unrecs...

It does seem to come in waves; there was a rather entertaining mosque-related thread from last night in which DUers did a good job of shredding the troll before the thread was locked. There ought to be some real *winners* after the Sister Sarah/Baby Beck rally this weekend.

8. A post here several months ago reported a change by Google...

...that had the effect of displaying DU posts much higher in search results than had been the case before. I didn't pay much attention to it at the time, but it does seem that DU is showing up frequently among top search hits.

That attracts a lot of first-time visitors here of all political persuasions. My own impression is that I'm seeing both more new members--and more trolls.

Your remark about 'shredding' the troll made me chuckle. Between the members and the mods, we can handle the trolls. Meanwhile, we're gaining members--and I've been impressed with the contributions of some of the newest members. For DU, it looks like a net plus.
