They'd oust Shirley Sherrod in 3 damn milliseconds . . . |

... with no questions asked, based on a chopped-up, taken out-of-context video created by a racist jerk -- but THIS Simpson guy on the Catfood Commission - they want to keep him? WHY?!
The double-standards here are stunning. STUNNING.

5. Yeah, after the report |
|
and his job is done. Come on, Malaise, you know how these things operate. Simpson would have to strangle a virgin and roast her corpse before he would be fired. And even then they'd just find another lackey to replace him.

...me boiling. It affects TOO many people unfairly and this two-bit jerk just sharpens the knife that potentially going into their backs. I am stunned that the Obama admin would keep him around after this.

20. Simpson will serve in this little drama as the moustache-twirling villain, |
|
the one who wants to hurt poor Pauline, I mean Social Security, so that Obama can be the rescuer, the one who merely wants to raise the retirement age and cut benefits rather than leave the poor dear tied to the railroad tracks.

22. Pretentious propaganda |
|
Any idiot that thinks SS is "rescued' by raising retirement age and cutting benefits in lieu of abolishment or putting it on Wall Street is - well, an idiot. Obama will get no quarter from me for this stunt.
You have a point though, this could explain his appointment of the schmuck. Part of the little dog and pony show, perhaps.

19. Go read up on the Democratic Leadership Committee or DLC as we unaffectionately call it |
|
It is appalling but it isn't double standards. We have been infiltrated and taken over by middle of the road republicans with just a bit of neocon sauce on the side. This is perfectly in keeping with their philosophy.

25. Sent to the White House bit-bucket: |
|
I never thought I'd live to see the day that the GOP would - with the Democratic Party dominating every branch of our gov't, achieve their biggest dream:
Cutting SS and making the Democrats responsible for it. The GOP has been dreaming of cutting SS for sometime but as the 3rd rail of politics they couldn't allow themselves more than the fantasy. But I doubt that ANY Republican ever dreamed they could actually achieve cuts in SS -AND - get the Democrats to take the fall for it. But lo and behold, that's what is apparently happening right now.
I am appalled also at the blatant and quite interesting double-standard in this administration. That your administration would oust Ms. Shirley Sherrod within 24 hours, no questions asked, based on a chopped-up, taken out-of-context video created by a racist jerk while retaining this Simpson guy on the Catfood Commission after what he said about women and retirees speaks volumes.
If it's not racism or sexism then one has to ask what it is? We can only guess that it is part of the pretense being set up regarding cutting social security benefits.
In this little drama, Simpson might serve as the villain - the one who wants to hurt poor Social Security, so that in the end President Obama can be seen as the rescuer, the one who merely wants to raise the retirement age and cut benefits rather than leave the poor dear tied to the railroad tracks or splayed out for the picking on Wall Street.
So, President Obama looks the "hero" to an ignorant public while still doing what the GOP never deigned to do itself: CUT Social Security. Whatever the "reasoning" is behind this ill-advised appointment and retention of Mr. Simpson, it cannot be an ethical one and we all know that it is not.
You can cut your own salaries. You can all live on the same Medicare and social security the rest of us must after you're 65 or so - yes. Try that and see how that works out for you. Mr. Simpson, in particular.
You can cut defense spending. You can increase the income limit of those who must pay into the system. You can do myriad things other than cut programs that help the poorest in this country (particularly elderly women). WILL you? I'm somehow doubting that.
