Share your letters to WH demanding Simpson' head here

PS: If you're too shy to share your letter, just kick the thread or note you've sent one. Thanks!

Dear Mr. President:

I was outraged by the comments of Deficit Reduction Commission co-Chair Alan Simpson to the executive director of OWL comparing Social Security to the "tits" <sic> of a cow. Being outraged by Mr. Simpson's contemptuous characterizations of Social Security, however, and of his arrogance toward citizens concerned about it, is nothing new.

I find, however, a new sense of irritation with you, Mr. President, if you'll excuse my frankness. Like millions of Americans--and billions around the world, sir--I had high hopes for your good judgment and heart after years of the opposite in the White House. I'm now asking myself, how can a person with good sense and heart have appointed to this commission someone who has not only made no secret of his desire to end SS as we know it, but who has led the charge to demonize SS and other entitlement programs as the leading cause of the historic deficits--when in fact, as you have to know, it has absolutely nothing to do with that problem!

Mr. President, there is no good reason to put on your commission a person of such profound prejudice, poor judgment, and outright mean-spiritedness toward his fellow Americans.

Please add my name to those demanding Mr. Simpson's resignation. And please, sir, for the good of your own name and place in history, demand this resignation at once.

Thank you sincerely.

4. I did and I suggested removing the cap
and I don't expect it to make a tinker's damn of difference.

I think I am to the point of not expecting anything anymore... cynicism is deep.

6. It is deep. It's an obstacle.
But if you do nothing, you're even more assured of getting nothing.

It's good you wrote. We have to encourage each other, you know?

13. I go through the motions
I just don't expect them to make a difference. But I still do since I know it is important to at least TRY.

5. Well, what the heck -- here's mine:
Ref: Alan Simpson

Dear Mr. President;

If I, as an employee of a private company, went out of my way to insult the customers (and stockholders), I wouldn't even be offered the option of issuing an apology -- my butt would be fired before you could say "privatization."

So ex-Senator Simpson (who should be very familiar with sucking at the public teat) has now "apologized." That's nice. And now that we all know EXACTLY where he's coming from, it makes it easier to decide how much weight to give to any commission recommendations.

Personally, though, I don't want to hear his "apology." I want a nice, short statement on how he is obliged to resign his co-chairmanship (to "spend more time with his family," naturally).

Barring that, I can be just as cold-hearted as him and just fire his wrinkled keister outright.

Given his previous statements and his latest immature blatherings, he has no place within ten miles of recommending ANYTHING that effects Social Security (which, by the way, all of us "greedy old geezers" paid into all of our working lives -- unlike Mr. Born-Rich Simpson with his Congressional Pension).

Anyway, though, I digress. The point is: Apology NOT accepted, Mr. Simpson. As far as I'm concerned, in my best Donald Trump voice, "You're fired. Pack up your desk and hit the road."

He's got to go, sir.

(Take this with as many grains of salt as necessary. Thanks for listening.)

Okay, I think there's a misspelled word or two, but it finally wraps back around to the point. No extra charge for the gratuitous insults about Senator Wrinkled Keister's wrinkled keister. The President's from Chicago. I'm sure he's heard (and used) a lot worse.

We can only have the audacity to hope it will matter.

12. That it does (did). It probably won't make any difference, but
if you take my two cents and add it to your two cents and get other people to add their two cents -- pretty soon we'll have almost fifty cents!

Didn't save a copy. Basically just said it was important not just for the president to have confidence in Simpson, but that the people see him as a fair and honest member.

14. here' is a quick one
(I also wrote one before the "apology")

In regards to Alan Simpson's recent verbal attack on Social Security recipients, I trust that you also know he previously has referred to these Americans as "greedy geezers."

He has no place on this commission and should be fired, as he has demonstrated a strong dislike for retired Social Security recipients.

He also seems to be incapable of coping with disagreement or criticism, and lacks the judgment and the emotional stability to make unbiased decisions, or to communicate those decisions effectively on behalf of his Commission and the President who appointed him.

Please stand up for the American people and remove Mr. Simpson from the commission.

Thank You,

(I stole a few bits & pieces)

19. Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) made this statement

“We cannot trust the integrity of any product or recommendations of the Commission as long as former Senator Simpson is the Chairman. His insulting and outrageous comments reveal his own mistaken belief that Social Security is a) in crisis, b) about to collapse, and c) contributes to the deficit. None of this is true. In fact, the Social Security Trust Fund has a $2.5 trillion dollar surplus, and it will be able to pay 100 percent of benefits through 2037, according to the Social Security Board of Trustees. What’s more, Social Security has not contributed at all to the federal deficit. It is well known that Simpson has tried time and again over the years to raise the retirement age and cut Social Security benefits, and he makes no attempt to disguise his goals and attitude toward Social Security in his most recent comments.

“Furthermore, Simpson demonstrated a total disrespect for women and an unjustifiably contemptuous attitude toward Ashley Carson, Executive Director of the Older Women’s League. His comments were offensive, ignorant, and misleading, and he should be fired immediately.”
