My View of the Beck/MLK Event
I haven't had much to say with regards to this travesty. I think many are waiting & reserving judgement to see what is said and how many show up. Its totally possible Beck makes himself look like a complete fool and a joke & it won't have much effect (this is the scenario I'm hoping for). But it's also possible this could turn out to be the most racist event caught on national TV. We all knew Beck was going to turn his aim on the martyred image of MLK...who did more socially for this country than many Presidents. It was only a matter of time. Beck has made it his duty to go after all things Blacks cherish. The NAACP included. This was going to happen sooner or later because these people are racist & this is what racists do. Is this what the "post-racial America" is supposed to
look like? Open season on all non-Whites?

1. Beck can't go after MLK. The only reason he is able to pass off his revisionist "history" spiel now

with the Founding Fathers is because they have been lionized so much. You never hear him say anything BAD about them.

Likewise, he won't be able to say anything bad about MLK without getting laughed out of mainstream media. He has been trying to re-cast MLK and other Civil Rights leaders as conservatives, and I expect thats what this event is all about. They are going to try to fuse their racist/conservo/fundie agenda with the imagery and revisionist history of the Civil Rights movement.

2. The very theme is a racial dog whistle.
"Restoring Honor"...implying that America's honor has been lost because there's a black man in the white house and brown people come here to live.

3. Because he's supposively honoring soldiers it's a ploy to bring minorities to his event.
PLUS there is a request that no one bring signs to the event.

So think about it - an event honoring soldiers without anyone holding signs means they'll get plenty of 'photo-ops' that makes it look like they love minorities and this isn't a teabagging rally.

Faux News will have screaming orgasms covering the event.
