Goodbye America. Nice knowing you.
Many here on DU believe that the Democratic Party is completely controlled by the DLC, but I don’t buy it. I do believe there are many Dems in the party who think like Alan Grayson and Barney Frank. But evidently most of them are too cowed, or too inarticulate, or too complacent, or too numb to speak up. And for far too many of them, their first priority is keeping their jobs. Our well being comes in a distant second.

The country has tilted so far to the right that I fear we won’t see it level off in our lifetimes. Perhaps, someday, sanity will return. But at the moment, we have fallen into an abyss and there doesn’t seem to be any way out. The crazies are on a rampage and the Democrats are just sitting on the sidelines watching the triumph of the know nothings.

The GOP has all the machinery in place to frame issues and control the message. Through Fox “News,” hate radio, a lazy media that repeats the Fox propaganda, institutions such as the Heritage Foundation and the American Enterprise Institute that spew an avalanche of propaganda, and the unlimited billions of dollars poured in by big business, the Republicans have the upper hand.

Meanwhile, the Democrats are acting like deer frozen in the headlights and I don’t see them defrosting anytime soon – if ever. Playing catch up is hard work.

So, at this time, all I can say is “Goodbye America. Nice knowing you.” I wish it weren’t so. But wish in one hand, pee in the other, and see which one fills up first.

1. Of course there are
"I do believe there are many Dems in the party who think like Alan Grayson and Barney Frank"

But many more do not. Doubt if it means the end of the country though. Lol!

2. Oh, I think we'll be here in some fashion.
Nonetheless, it would be a good idea to cultivate a taste for cat food.

6. Ah yes
'We are going to end up eating cat food' and 'we are going to end up under sharia law.'
Peas in a pod.

8. If you disagree with me, would you please make an
intelligent argument for that disagreement?

15. Sure
The majority of Democrats are moderate and do not think totally like Grayson or Frank. We are not cowed, inarticulate, complacent or brainwashed by FOX, we simply have different beliefs and views on how things should be accomplished. To suggest we are deer stuck in the headlights because we don't buy fear based tactics like "we will all be eating catfood," is ridiculous.
The country is NOT so far "right" that it is teetering on the brink of collapse. It is just a country which does NOT want to move as far left as YOU want.

My argument? The desires and opinions of the few do NOT negate the rights and desires of the many. Nor does it signal the end of the nation.

5. Cowed, inarticulate, complacent, numb -- maybe so. But also shouted down, ignored, ridiculed,
marginalized, mocked, talked down to, attacked and silenced.

12. Unrec'd
Unrec'd for 'sky is falling' hyperbole.

We will get through this. I understand the frustration at the current situation, but it will get better and it will change.

What fun is it being beneficial when we can torture and spy with the full authority of the American people..
