Gen. Lute must not have a brain in his head.
Nobody in their right mind would take this job, nobody. He is going to be a deputy something or other working out of the White House. He has no line authority. Cheney wants him to "ride roughshod" over the bureaucracy to make sure we are getting the job done. I guess he is supposed to ride his military superiors too. It just doesn't work this way. This poor man might as well resign now...in disgrace...because he is marked for failure. I wonder what made him take such a hopeless job? Golden parachute like Wolfowitz?

1. Yeah, I'm giving him 6 months...
...could be a lot less if the situation Iraq keeps "improving" as it has the last couple of months.

:sarcasm:

I'm afraid Lute doesn't stand a chance, I have no idea what his motivation is.

2. How can he run roughshod?
Gen Petraeus outranks him

3. According to a CNN talking head who was on, this morning...
...Lute actually voiced serious reservations regarding The Surge™, indicating that he didn't believe it could work, in the absence of similar economic, political, and reconstruction efforts.

So, what are we to make of his willingness to take this position? Is there a financial incentive? Or did the White House make him an offer he couldn't refuse?

Time will tell. Or not.

5. Maybe he got an offer he couldn't refuse from Horseheadville.
They are thugs, after all. They have no qualms about sending kids off to get blown up and to blow up other people. What are a few targeted threats to them?
