Palin Criticizes Obama On Abortion: Most Pro-Abortion President Ever

BRENDAN FARRINGTON | 08/26/10 10:54 PM | AP

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Sarah Palin called President Barack Obama the most pro-abortion president ever Thursday and mocked Florida's governor for claiming to be pro-life after vetoing a bill that would have required women to get ultrasounds before having the procedure.

In a speech that only ventured into politics on abortion issues, Palin criticized Obama's health care overhaul as a plan that will lead to more abortions.

"The biggest advance of the abortion industry in America is the passage of Obamacare," Palin said. "Elective abortions have nothing to do with health care. It's about ending lives, not saving lives."

The former Alaska governor and Republican presidential nominee John McCain's running mate in 2008 also drew boos and laughter when she talked about Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, who left the Republican Party and is now running for Senate as an independent.

"Unfortunately your Republican governor," Palin began before pausing. "I don't know if he wants to be one or is a Republican anymore."

After the crowd booed, she continued.

"Your governor, he decided to veto this pro-life bill," she said before drawing laughs by sarcastically pointing out that Crist still calls himself pro-life. "He forgot that when to comes protecting the sanctity of life actions speak louder than words."

1. Gov. Crist rightly vetoed a bill which violated a woman's right to privacy.
Palin makes a mockery of the Constitution.

2. I'd like to know exactly how many minutes each day that Sarah P. spends taking care of Trig.
Not Todd, not healthcare aides. Sarah, his mother. She wanted him. What's she doing with her "challenge"?

7. A Whopping 500 People...
I had read she was supposed to give this speech in a bigger venue...so 500 is all she could draw in some of the reddest part of Florida??? But nevermind that...the corporate media salivates on everything the celebrity politician says and will echo this shit around. And always, its word salad and talking points but it the raw meat the catholics and anti-choicers love to hear. It's all about rattling bases...just another wedge that Mooselini plays and gets attention.

12. The big news here - 500 people - and that was likely an estimate
To put that in perspective - in 2005, both John Kerry and Howard Dean got at least 500 people at rallies they had for Corzine when he was first running for governor. Kerry had around 1000, Dean around 500. This was in a town of about 16,000 people though it drew many from the county. Neither had anywhere near the publicity that Palin's had.

15. They raised $50,000
I wonder how much she charged them to speak??

They probably lost money on the deal after her fees, hall rental, security and such.

17. "How in the world is this going to work? Does God really know what he's doing?" she said.

Why yes God, turning Trig into a prop is a fabulous idea. You betcha. :woohoo:

"God does know what he's doing," she said. Then she said, "Thanks to God, I now have my own cash cow prop" and she added, "Sorry Trig, nothing personal lil dude but mama grizzly needs a few more tubes of lipstick." Wink-wink.

18. the point is, she made her choice. She wants to take that same
decision out of other people's hands.

She speaks about the CHOICE she was faced with and wants HER decision to be forced on others.

What if the law were reversed? What if it were that she would have been forced by the govt. to abort? She's supposedly all about America's 'freedoms'.

Did her "god" not give her "free will"-the ability to "choose" what she will and will not do with her body? When she works to take that decision away from other women, she sets herself up in the position of being "god". In my understanding of the bible, that isn't a good thing.

And as for her comment that 'God' never gives people more than they can handle- I call BULLSHIT. The suicide rate in this country is evidence that many of us are trying to cope with 'more than we can handle'.

19. Not to make it as simple as one word but..
Edited on Fri Aug-27-10 10:11 AM by nc4bo
I will by saying that she is a hypocrite. Always was.

And when her own daughter inconveniently turned up preggo, in spite of Sarah's abstinence-only pov, Sarah rushed to cover it up with a page straight out of the radical right pro-life book. I'd be willing to wager that she secretly she wanted to bonk Bristol over the head (or kill her) especially since Sarah was riding high on the VP wave.

For all we knew, behind closed doors, she could have been wishing Bristol got rid of Sarah's little complication. Sorry, had to say it.

Now Bristol can make money off her little bundle of joy too, just like mama.

It's all a show, with Palin on the stage, lights focused on her with the media treating her as a sideshow when in reality, the only people who care about what this hypocritical idiot thinks/says/does are her radical fringe base.

Hypocrite.

20. "when it comes to protecting the sanctity of life...."

Seriously?

Why is it that members of the nazi party get upset about abortion, but have no problem with post-birth abortion of denying medical care? If life is so fscking sacred, why don't they push for single-payer health care?

Each day, 273 people die due to lack of health care in the U.S.; that's 100,000 deaths per year.

We need single-payer health care, not a welfare bailout for the serial-killer insurance agencies.

We don't need the GingrichCare of mandated, unregulated, for-profit insurance that is still too expensive, only pays parts of medical bills, denies claims, and bankrupts people. Republinazi '93 plan:
"Subtitle F: Universal Coverage - Requires each citizen or lawful permanent resident to be covered under a qualified health plan or equivalent health care program by January 1, 2005."

"We will never have real reform until people's health stops being treated as a financial opportunity for corporations."
