Tuesday when I was going to hand out info at the polls |
|
my car wouldn't start because of a dead battery. It did get fixed within a few minutes. On my way home the wipers kept going on when they were off! I thought I would go back the next day and get that taken care of -called the mechanic when I arrived home and he was not concerned. The next day when I was going to the store - car did not start....... mechanic came to my house. There are wires under the battery, the battery leaked acid and ruined the wires. So the second day we went through the whole routine again. I need to say this battery was 5 yrs old in Az - hot Az,
The shock was when I received my bill which I will round off - 176.00 for labor, $15.00 for parts. It sounds like it could have been a complicated situation because they have to take all the wires, cut them and weld them.
Anyone familiar with cars think this is out of line? I am just happy to have a care where there is no public transportation.

Electric problems are notoriously labor intensive to diagnose and repair. If everything is working now, it sounds like you got a pretty good deal!

3. He is good I believe .... |
|
he came the second day to boost the new battery so I could drive to their place. I really believe I got a good deal after I saw how the acid ate into the cup that holds the wires, the acid ate the wires. I guess was taken back on the parts and the labor costs. I was so proud my battery lasted in this desert heat that long, won't let this happen again. I usually replace a battery every couple of years. Guess I threw my car under the bus, poor car! sorry car ;(

4. they welded the wires?? |
|
or soldered them? More than likely they used butt connectors(no puns intended) and just mashed them with pliers..
You could stand to take a course in basic fix it stuff. I'm just saying.

8. I can answer that for her |

Yes he did. At first he tried to clean the wires in hopes it would do the trick, but it was too eaten up and the procedure had to be done mentioned above.

Sounds like you have an honest wrencher that charges *very* reasonable rates. Please use his shop for all your auto maintenance and repair needs and I think you'll get as much service outta your cars as you can expect.

He does go out of his way to help me. I did find out before he did work on my car a few years ago and checked price is reasonable and goes out of his way for his customers. He is rare today.
