4. how nutty can one person be
Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) hosted her own rally Saturday at the Washington Monument. The event coincided with high-profile gatherings organized by Fox News host Glenn Beck and civil rights leader Al Sharpton.

On a day when crowd estimates could provide their respective groups with political clout, Bachmann asked her audience how many thought more than 1 million people were in attendance. The question was met by big cheers from the gathering of about 1,000. "We're not going let anyone get away with saying there were less than a million here today because we were witnesses," Bachmann said.

The Republican lawmaker also took the opportunity to list members of the House Tea Party Caucus, which she chairs. When she reached the name of Rep. Joe Wilson, best known for shouting "you lie" during President Obama's address to Congress, the crowd started chanting "you lie."

Bachman told the crowd that her campaign was paying for the event, which she called a town hall meeting. Bachmann was then followed by a series of speakers.

Although the crowd was overwhelmingly white, the dais showcased a diverse group including a black woman, a black man, a white man and a Hispanic man.

Bachman got applause and cheers when she ran through a list of conservative candidates for Congress, including Senate candidates Marco Rubio in Florida, Rand Paul in Kentucky, Sharron Angle in Nevada and Pat Toomey in Pennsylvania. Bachmann also mentioned former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina -- who is running against longtime Senate incumbent Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) -- saying, "Bye-bye, Barbara. Hello, Carly."

The rally disbanded to the strains of Tom Jones's "She's a Lady.

16. These two paragraphs made me l;augh very hard!:

Apparently attendence is now decided by a vote by those in attendence! Hollywood is thrilled!

And the image of a thousand people chanting "you Lie" to Mrs. Bachman is funny beyond belief.

20. Since you're in her district, let me ask
Edited on Sat Aug-28-10 10:18 PM by depakid
How is it that people are willing to elect a person who's quite literally paranoid and delusional (not to mention outright dishonest)?

I get it with Virginia Foxx's district (dueling banjos) but Minnesotans always seemed somewhat more sensible on the whole than that.

Edited on Sun Aug-29-10 02:51 AM by krispos42
Her district is rather odd-shaped. I used to be in the 8th District, and not terribly far from her border. Lots of rural people out there.

In fact, I was doing Census work out there on the edge of her district, and that's where I met my only really reluctant person... All he would give me is his age and race... and his race was "American". :eyes:

At least he was polite about it. I wound up getting most of the info from his landlord.

38. It's the suburban republicans who keep electing her. Look at
Wright, Sherburne, and Anoka counties, all surrounding the Twin Cities. St. Cloud and Bachmann's own county--Washington, will definitely vote against Bachmann.

40. Subrural and rural blue-collar, agricultural area.
It's basically the northern suburbs and "exurbs" of the Twin Cities, and those areas can be on the conservative side. It's a big outdoors-sports area, too. Hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, boating, etc. Sort of the "rugged individual" mentality.

A fair bit of farming, too. Of course, the farmers are massively subsidized by the federal government, but that fact seems to fall behind the wayside. If the feds change agricultural policy and it's perceived of as hurting the farmers, the people get all Teabagger.

And property taxes are up on the county and city levels because the state government cut back on funding due to the recession, so that makes the farmers and the landowners cranky as well. A lot of people out in that area own a fairly big plot of land, even in they don't farm. The last place I lived at was at the edge of town and had a fair-sized house with attached garage and a detached shed... on 10 acres.

Of course, a lot of housing plots were just suburban-sized plots in the middle of nowhere, but there were quite a few on one or two acres, and several that I had to drive about 300-400 yards from the road to get to the house. It might have been a shitty house surrounded by abandoned vehicles, but still, the acreage was almost certainly substantial.

However, in the last election she put her foot in her mouth about two weeks before the election and was almost wiped out in a last-minute surge by her Democratic opponent, but not quite. And she's been shoving her foot in her mouth ever since.

The downsize is that there is a lot of RW talk radio out there... 1400 The Patriot is a big powerful AM station, and 100.3 KTLK is a powerful FM station. Little AM960 "The Voice of Minnesota" only has a thousand watts of output, a fraction of the RW stations.

We see her attack ads against Tarryl Clark on TV all the time, but Michele refuses to rub elbows with the locals and her constituents. She feels like she has too large a national prominence for the little people. :puke:

“From looking around the internet the general consensus is around 500k. Some say many more some say many less.”
This was my post. Show me where I said the number was 500000. I personally think it was around 150000. But I don’t really care. You are looking behind every tree for a fox and not seeing the monster over the ridge.
And calling someone a troll even with a metaphor is against the rules I think. And I guess I do care.

There sure wasn't that many people there. All this talk about how many went to Beckk's rally, but Lady Blah Blah was there too. And Batshit crazy Bachmann had her own rally. There should have been elbow to elbow Teabaggers there. All they needed where the Monster Trucks rolling down the Lincoln Monument.
