What I tell white folks here in the South that don't understand Obama...
is that Obama is basically 'Hawaii Five 0' - he's here to kick ass all the corruption that happened under the Republicans for the last 28 years - destroyed economies and needless wars.

I find it helps people and eases political conversation. Most white folks here in the South don't understand the complexity of Obama's background or what he's all about.

The "Hawaii Five 0' reference helps them in a popular culture context.

Can't wait for the new series on CBS to start Sept. 20!

12. Hawaii Five-O was the (fictional) state police unit of Hawaii. How is this like Obama?
Is it strictly because he was born in Hawaii? Does this actually help southern white people 'understand' his complexity??

13. You see, if jx would have just posted "I like Hawaii 5 0 no one would
have read the thread. No one would have posted.
I hereby nominate jx for Greatest Hijack of a thread Award for the year 2010. I do not think he can be disqualified because it is his own thread, can he?

18. Well, good for you, and good for jx. Myself, I doubt if I ever watched
a full episode of it. And I wouldn't know Grace Park if I tripped over her at a cocktail party in Bel Air.
Or a pot party in the Hollywood Hills.
But I will say they did have some fine drumming on their theme song, and I remember discussing, many years ago, with someone from the show, that when they first got the theme song, someone wanted to drop or not having the drumming in it. We laughed and agreed that the best and most important part of the theme music was ... the drumming. Wild, but it puts all the excitement into it.

23. I never actually watched an episode...
After the opening theme I would go looking for a Zorro rerun.

BTW, the CD track of the theme is really intense.

This one is nearly as good.

28. My favorite of the jhan ra, the genre, ah, the instrumentals is ...
Apache.
But I like the British "Shadows" version. The one used in the film "Scandal".
It's a far far tighter version than Ventures do. In fact, I would dare to say it's so tight, it squeaks.

26. Who the hell is Grace Park?
So I look it up on the Google, and Wikipedia tells me that she's some "American-born Canadian actress. She is best known as Sharon Valerii (and the various other iterations of Number Eight, a humanoid Cylon) on Battlestar Galactica."

That's about her only claim to fame, except for some Canadian TV. So she's only appeared on some sci-fi remake, and for you, she's like the next Elizbeth Taylor or something.

And how do you people know, much less CARE about ANOTHER upcoming remake of some formulaic old TV show from the 70s?

I wonder how a lot of people here find the time to post on DU, with all the enless hours of TV-watching and "entertainment news" research they must be engaged in on a daily basis.

Get over your TV addiction!

14. Dayumn, folks, show me some aloha!
I'm just trying to have some fun here and make a point which I believe to be valid.

Obama is a native son of the great state of Hawaii!

That's something that his supporters need to keep in mind.

It's something that all Americans should be proud of!

17. You are right that the GOP is corrupt. It isn't about ideas anymore. It is only about policy that
will garner less taxes on the rich and deregulation. That is all it is about. This whole country, the GOP believe, must be harnessed to do only this. Nothing else matters. And that is a big transfer of wealth from the middle class to the rich. Which is corruption.
