Great suppression weather today for the fires burning in Oregon! (DIAL-UP WARNING)
Cold, wet, and high relative humidities. Thank goodness - finally! The high here at my lookout was 38-F and I saw snow mixed with light rain early, before it changed to fog and mist.

Here are the Oregon fires from InciWeb. The top five are the most important.
http://www.inciweb.org/state/38/

BTW: I thank you taxpayers for the load of propane you sent me yesterday. What great timing! It kept me as warm as a bug in a rug all day today. And what a great day it was. For the four or so fogged-in hours I lounged around with Nick reading "Let the Great World Spin." I reward you with some eclectic photos:

The high ice cirrus clouds were a harbinger of the weather today. A jet drags a tail across the evening sky, reminding me of why I am so glad to be down here in the wilderness.

Nick faces the rising sun.

I love B&W!

My favorite genre: the forest in the early morning fog just before it dissipates completely. I did this one in B&W and did a little manipulation of that in PhotoShop.

Antelope Springs Butte in a sea of fog. Actually, this used to be the sea - but don't tell the Creationists.

Nick surveys his domain.

Again, thank you taxpayers so much!

4. Those are fantastic!
The sky scene in black and white should be called "Ghost Riders in the Sky". :-)

8. Let me decide for you ..
Forest in the fog. By far my favorite genre, to the point of being an obsession. IMHO, it is about the only early morning into-the-sun shot that makes sense out here (other than the ubiquitous sunrise shots). It is technically demanding and time critical (there are only a few minutes between solid white fog on the forest floor and total dissipation.

7. There's a (relative) nip in the air
here tonight (SoCal mountains).

It's been a mild summer generally (I held off buying an air conditioner until July 3); I wouldn't be surprised if there's an early winter (I'm slowly preparing for such).

(But I also wouldn't be surprised if there isn't.)

11. My dear DemoTex!
Oh good grief, I nearly missed these!

And they are, of course, splendid!

I'm not that crazy about b&w, but your pic of the forest in the early morning fog is amazing!

Nick looks wonderful and so alert.

Thanks!

Recommended.

12. Damn it, Tex! You have a gift.
(I'm switching to this thread from the Nam thread, and it's restful to see how much beauty can be captured by a man who has seen so much ugliness.) I'm glad you're here.

13. But Pinboy has a good thread going.
I'll honor you by using your reply to announce that a big Atlanta photo gallery is very interested in displaying my works! I just got an email from a guy who was my 101-102 digital instructor at Showcase last winter. Hip-Damn-Hop!

:hi:

14. Congrats! I'll say it again, your work is art, and the more people who can see it, the better.
And yeah, Pinboy has a good thread working. I'll probably be heading back over there. This is shaping up as one of those nights.
