13. Exactly. Threats to keep the sheeple from stampeding.
As if the majority of the sheeple even had a remote clue
as to what has happened.
I think sometimes, we at DU forget that we are but a
small remote island of awareness in a vast ocean of shit
where consciousness and comprehension of the facts are concerned.

The Bush regime has comandeered all legal recourse to to their crimes.

The coup has succeeded.

The only way out now is for someone to take unlawful, risky, actions against them.

name on a list of people supporting IMPEACHMENT, I am NOT DONATING A SINGLE DIME. I did NOT work my ass off ALL LAST YEAR so the Dems could take back Capitol Hill - only to see them drag their heels and leave their backbones at the door.

BTW - PLEASE note the TOLL FREE Capitol Hill switchboard numbers at your disposal, for use in calling your reps for free (House AND/OR Senate - all you have to do is ask). They're conveniently located in my sig line and I just updated with a new one I heard on the Thom Hartman show - and just used, myself. It works. 1 (866) 220 - 0044. Easiest one to remember, also.

They're too fucking scared of not being re-elected, so they'll put on a show with all these hearings but nothing happens afterwards.

Sometimes you just have to do what's right and not sit around fearing public reaction. That never stopped the Republicans.

THEY IMPEACHED CLINTON WHEN HIS APPROVAL RATING WAS OVER 60%!!!!!!!!!!

They need to get out there and tell the american people WHY BUSH/CHENEY IS BEING IMPEACHED!!

23. Impeachment, trial and conviction are processes, all processes
take time. Impeachment by the House creates embarrassment for bush, but w/o the # of confirmed votes in the Senate for conviction, it is a pointless exercise, all it would do is make us feel "better" that he got charged.

As evidence is built, and shown to the Senate, there may indeed be the requisite # + to nail bush to the docket, but until then, I see other items of importance that need to be dealt with. I don't want to see bush get off, it could actually make things worse.

37. Once the process begins, you can't stop the evidence from
coming forward and those on the fence can't remain there and those that are against impeachment can't keep that position without fear of being labeled partisan hacks.

You must remember, Clinton's impeachment had it's price, the average joe was against him and Gore was advised by the political handlers to distance himself from Clinton. We lost in 2000 because of theft and because the numbers were so close, if we had a wider margin, they couldn't have stolen it.

Clinton's impeachment hurt our party for years, it wasn't until last year that we were able to show that the moral majority didn't have the answers, that's better than 6 years worth of damage, despite the incompetence of this admin.

Impeachment is necessary to show the world that we, the people, do not agree with the crimes of this admin. It is vital to restoring our place as a bastion of justice and human rights, as we were before the thugs stole the office.

46. I understand what you're saying, and I am in favor of getting
rid of bush under any legal way we can, but my father was a lawyer, and he believed that you don't bring a case against someone unless you are pretty certain of conviction. DA's have known this for many years, (caveat: my dad was not a DA), and they see it as essentially a waste of taxpayer dollars and using up what credibility you have. Look at the guy who tried to try the kids from the LaCrosse team...he went down in flames, his reputation scorched.

I'm just saying that there are many things we could be doing that would better the country, including impeaching bush, but that is not one of my priorities, basically because I can't see a conviction in the works yet. Gonzo needs to go, others need to be examined and a determination made as to what they've done, there are tons of things that apply to the infrastructure and economy that need to be done...I'm looking at the big picture, and trying to get things moving again in this country to get it back to the people.

As for Clinton's impeachment and exoneration, sure, it hurt...but that's history. The same history, although somewhat newer, shows us that bush himself is destroying the GOP for perhaps decades to come...hell, in cases like this, bush is actually an unwitting ally in what we've been trying to do for years...:D

impeachment proceedings, the proceedings themselves are damaging (eg Clinton and the 2000, 2002, 2004, elections, not until 2006 could we get a grip and that grip is not a powerful as it should be.) What hinges on the impeachment of bush is proving to the world that we do not agree with his methods, that we don't condone his criminal contempt for the principals that make our nation great.

More hinges on the impeachment than just political control in DC.

For all those that claim the IRW was lawful, there are hundreds of others that know it was not. We were charter members of the UN and our membership in the UN was a treaty that we entered pursuant to the Constitution. When we, the state department and this admin, failed to get the requisite authority from the UN to invade and occupy Iraq, they violated that charter, the federal laws that authorized our membership and relationship in the UN and the Constitution.

Many miss that little fact, but that fact was just the beginning of the flagrant abuses of power and abandonment of our laws. It was just one of so many of the constitutional violations that this admin will be known for in years to come.

World stability, hell world peace and restoration of our nation as a just nation to me is vital. If we don't seek to prove that to the world, it will matter not who we elect in the years to come. Our failure to charge and try this admin is, in effect, approval of this admin. The world knows that.
