Isn't it about time to throw a few virgins into the volcano?
What we are witnessing in our country, and every other that has sensed an impending deprivation, is human nature. The thread is identical in nature, but varying in severity. In earlier times, witches, the possessed, or unlucky would be suitable targets, to avert the gaze of the all seeing eye.

Glenn Becks quiet statement, was, we'all are large in number, and you have no longer any claims to whine, complain, beg, declare, convince, hope, announce, FEEL anything about your origins, or the origins of your recent ancestors. Nor the remaining attitudes, spawned by that history. You'all, will work, and shut up about your wanting a shot at the american dream too.

Those leaning libertarian, sense the advantage they received, and want to amplify that, without the encumberance of competing claims. Slavery is OK, slongas the person entered that state willingly. They SHOULD be served by those less superior.

The prevailing sociopathic state of affairs is nothing but human nature, and will get far worse, if the future indeed becomes bleak. Hypervigilance, makes those PRONE to insensitivity to forget entirely humane intention. To be replaced by devoted diligent rapaciousness.

Man was never intended evolutionarily, to exist in this density. As Einstein said, Nationalism is the measles of humanity. That goes for every level of abstraction.

I begin to hear less, the insane ravings, and instead see frightened animals. I have always feared frightened animals. Whenever I encounter one, I always develop a plan to crush it's skull, before it reaches me, to do damage. That they are also my neighbors and countrymen complicates mightily the situation.

Ramping down demagogues, is critical at this juncture, or we will see Beck's minions, or those like them commit attrocities thought extinct in western culture. We are at a crossroads, and the fact that they have now fully injected religion into their mission does not portend well. Folks, this is gonna be history.

1. The worst of human nature. Wrapped in the flag, carrying a cross.

3. exactly

People wonder how Germany could go down the path that they did you just have to open your eyes. Can you imagine what Beck would be like if the US had suffered a catastrophi military defeat and had been an occupied country.

People wonder how Talibanism can over take a country. This is what it looks like when it gets started.

No the US is not going to go down either extreme but this is what it looks like when it tries to break out of its shell.

4. You make great sense that fear is a large instrument in the Fox toolbox..
Therefore it pleased me greatly to read, on DU, how one savvy person dealt with a client of his... the goal being to stop Fox News...

He was working in a person's home, and Fox News was on the TV so he said that he couldn't listen to Fox News...

That it was owned by a foreign born man, and that a large chunk of the business is owned by a Muslim.. I think that's how his rationale went to freak out the right wing guy...

He told the man to check it out on Google.. Wiki tells us that Murdoch was born into a wealthy Australian family and became a naturalized American in Sept 1985.

He later heard the fellow on his cell phone, telling his friends not to listen to Fox News.... or at least telling them about the 'foreigner' connection..

Sorry I can't find the entry.. but he was brilliant.. :)

I live in Canada.. but I thought that was amazingly well done.

5. Dinger, in our pagan rituals, we are always looking for virgins.
And the problem is, that, today, they are extremely hard to find.

7. The obvious significance of using virgins for sacrifice was their
value to society. My question is, aside from the literal meaning of virgins, who would society's virgins be? Who are the most innocent and valuable members that would be offered to the volcano gods?

11. Well. Good question. Very tough one. Innocent? Who is innocent?
Well, I think nobody, today. They are all guilty of something.
Even if it is just youthful exuberance. Sometimes the youthfulness just aggravates me.
Or the banality. Are we not all guilty of banality, maybe half the time? Concerned about the small and insignificant details?
I can't think of who it could be.
How about just a behind the closed door type of lottery. "You have won the lottery! Just open the door and walk thru'."
Whoosh, into the volcano they go. The element of surprise, you know.
That's really about the best I could come up with. I confess, I have very little imagination.

9. WingDinger - you are about 30 years too late
The day I walked into my mother-in-law's house about 30 years ago and saw this new thing called TV evangilist (I believe it was Pat Robertson) on the screen and her in an absolute rapture and, thus, the constant religious preaching to us and the constant watching of this...I knew this country would have to go off the cliff to total destruction before it grew up and began to handle problems.
