Glenn Beck: "Reclaim the Civil Rights Movement". Please explain, you racist motherfucker.

WASHINGTON – Glenn Beck says it's just a coincidence his Restoring Honor rally on Saturday at the Lincoln Memorial will take place on the anniversary and at the site of Martin Luther King Jr.'s famous "I Have a Dream" speech. Civil rights veterans are skeptical.

"This is going to be a moment that you'll never be able to paint people as haters, racists, none of it," Beck says of the event featuring Sarah Palin and other conservative political and cultural figures. "This is a moment, quite honestly, that I think we reclaim the civil rights movement."

"When we heard about Glenn Beck, it was puzzling," the Rev. Al Sharpton said. "Because if you read Dr. King's speech, it just doesn't gel with what Mr. Beck or Mrs. Palin are representing."

It's just a coincidence...

Beck has repeatedly invoked Martin Luther King Jr. and the civil rights movement to promote his upcoming 8-28 rally

Beck: 8-28 rally will "reclaim the civil rights movement."
On the May 26 edition of Premiere Radio Networks' The Glenn Beck Program, Beck asserted that his upcoming 8-28 rally -- which he described as an "iconic event" -- will "reclaim the civil rights movement," which has been "so distorted." Beck also said: "We are on the right side of history. We are on the side of individual freedoms and liberties and damn it, we will reclaim the civil rights moment. We will take that movement because we were the people that did it in the first place."

Beck: At 8-28 rally, we will "pick up Martin Luther King's dream that has been distorted and lost."
On the June 15 edition of The Glenn Beck Program, while encouraging people to attend his upcoming rally, Beck said, "As we create history together, your children will be able to say, 'I remember. I was there.' As we -- as we pick up Martin Luther King's dream that has been distorted and lost, and we say 'we bought it when he first said it. It's time to restore and to finish it. Restoring honor: 8-28."

Beck: It's "divine providence" that 8-28 rally is on anniversary of King's speech
On the June 18 broadcast of The Glenn Beck Program, Beck promoted his rally and noted that the date falls on the "anniversary of the 'I Have a Dream' speech from Martin Luther King. And what an appropriate day." Beck added, "At first we picked that date, we didn't know and I thought, 'oh jeez.' But now I think it was almost divine providence. I do. His dream has been so corrupted."

Beck: The Voice of Racism.

Eat shit and die, you pathetic wretched loser.

And take Palin with you.

No racists here...

Say WHAT?

Oh. OK. Well, BRING IT!

You, too, RatFuck:

Fuck him all to hell.

I've never desired to kill anyone, but I've read many an obituary with pleasure.

5. That's been tried.
We probably need removal of the Fox "News" channel somehow.

7. The Advertiser Boycott Worked
Back in the old days, before President Clinton signed the 96 Telecommunications Act - this boycott would have hurt News Corp - but no more, they own too much now.

22. I agree.
I plan to keep on working against Fox News and its advertising support. Beck lost support but they keep him around anyway.

9. A white person of Beck's ilk....

...saying they want to 'reclaim the civil rights movement', is disturbing. My theory is that Beck's true aim by organizing that rally was to take a big fat dump on all the progress we've made these last 50 years. The young black President has gotten the good 'ol white boys (and the anti-feminists who live to submit to them) all riled up, and yes, clutching their gods and guns again. You can't tell me this isn't racism, no matter how much Beck denies it. I've never known a racist to outright admit to being racist.

18. You nailed it. It's a slap in the face to all of us. "Disturbing" is an understatement.
To Beck and Bachmann and Palin, WE'RE the racists.

It's the height of insult (and not accidental) to appropriate OUR message to their own ends, their ends being to eliminate the progress we've made and to dilute/undo the message.

MLK, JFK, RFK, and others are boiling in their graves.

argghhh!

10. The Tea Party movement is good at NOT explaining. Just co-opting phrases
As far as I can tell, they are good at co-opting these kinds of phrases without any real definition. Just jingoistic soundbites that are very effective imho.
