On "Face the Nation". "The (SS) Trust Fund is empty". Unchallenged
This coming from the repug running for the Alaskan senate seat. His entire run-on sentence style verbiage went completely unchallenged by the host.

One thing I've noticed about the wing-nuts over the years is that they speak very rapidly and talk over any attempts at rebuttal and/or interruption. Palin is quite adept at this, but there are many who do it better.

It's maddening to continually watch democrats let them get way this tactic.

2. As you note, it's not so much the
"Democrats" letting them get away with it as the media who is supposed to be a watch dog. They have become sheep, thinking that reporting is just to allow to people who disagree to each have a platform. They don't correct factual errors, question faulty logic, or make any attempt to educate Americans about facts or truth. They have bought the line hook line and sinker that :truth is in the eye of the beholder." This hogwash does not serve the American people well at all.

3. Yes, it is, those t-bills are worthless
which is why the Cat Food Commission is not talking about cashing any of them in to cover the shortfall caused by massive unemployment.

Face it, people, we've been robbed for the last 30 years and that money is long gone into the pockets of a few very rich men.

Unless Congress grows the balls it's going to take to sock it to the rich to get our money back from them, we're going to face the destruction of the most popular social insurance program this country has ever seen.

The GOP will have succeeded at last.

7. Only question now is :
Will they let the current crop of Soc Sec recipients continue to get checks or take it away all at once?
they might be thinking we are too old and creaky to protest.

6. Erskine Bowles (Mr. Obamas Co-Chairman to Financial Reform)
Edited on Sun Aug-29-10 10:09 AM by lib2DaBone
Conspired along with Newt Gingrich back in 1999 to steal Social Security. It would have worked.. they would have got SS ....except that the Monica Lewinski affair got in the way and diverted it.

The reason they let them get away with lies about SS is because the DEMS and the Republican Hedge Fund Vampires and Media are working together to get their hands on our SS Cash.

It was Barack Obama, not John Boehner, who appointed Alan Simpson and Erskine Bowles to co-chair the "National Fiscal Commission on Responsibility and Reform." Simpson's a longtime Social Security antagonist who's called retired Americans "greedy geezers" because they don't want their Social Security payments used to fund extravagant tax cuts and military spending. (A video of Simpson's misguided and angry rant drew quite a bit of attention recently.) And Erskine Bowles cut a deal with Newt Gingrich that would have partially privatized Social Security in the 1990's if the Monica Lewinsky scandal hadn't derailed their plans. (He has also revealed what Dean Baker describes as a numerological fascination with using arbitrary numbers as targets.)

8. At this point, it may as well be empty, since it's now accepted as the truth.
With a willing media, and and a complicit "opposition" party, the Republicans can establish the truth of just about anything if they repeat it often enough. Remember how Iraq posed an imminent threat to the US?

9. That's why we have to keep calling them out on it.
When someone says that the fund is empty or some other BS, we've got to immediately challenge them. Don't let them continue without explaining how it came to be empty. It didn't just go up in smoke. It's a debt we're owed and we need to call the loan.

11. There was a time when Schieffer would have pounced on that
but he's so bought and sold and afraid of 'scaring off' future guests that I can't watch him anymore. Watching him is like watching the scrawny little kid run for his life in a game of dodgeball.
