ABC News - "Christians Rip Glenn Beck Over 'Social Justice' Slam" - God Hates Economic Justice?
You wonder why Beck is relentlessly promoted as a spokesman on Christian values even though he is Mormon? Maybe because he is pushing a vision of Christianity that turns its back on social justice and the poor. Still, no one really mentioned this fact during the recent coverage of the Beck at Lincoln Memorial:

Glenn Beck has stirred the pot again, but President Obama can rest easy for a few days because he was not the central target this time.

Backers of the concept of Christian "social justice," however, were not so lucky. Beck compared it to communism and Nazism -- and at least one religious leader is calling for Christians to stop watching the conservative broadcaster, radio host and best-selling author.

On his radio and television shows, Beck suggested any church promoting "social justice" or "economic justice" merely was using code words for Nazism and communism.

"I beg you look for the words social justice or economic justice on your church Web site," he said. "If you find it, run as fast as you can. Social justice and economic justice, they are code words. ... Am I advising people to leave their church? Yes! If they're going to Jeremiah Wright's church, yes!

4. Exactly, Yet News Coverage Now Is Touting Him As A Christian Leader. Collective Amnesia?
Is March ancient history? You would think so looking at the headlines covering the corporate paid sponsored rally at the Lincoln memorial where Glenn Beck presented himself as an authority on the subject of Christian values. Really?

What happened to gospel according to Glenn Beck when he was condemning the preaching of economic or social justice. I guess we should kick out Jesus as a Christian figure with all his references to the meek shall inherit the earth.

"The meek shall inherit the Earth, but not its mineral rights.” - J. Paul Getty.

5. The very essence of Christianity is social and economic
justice and caring for the poor, sick, elderly, homeless, needy, etc. The early years of the church were very socialistic and there was nothing at all considered wrong with it. It's only been in recent times that the concept of individuality and the individual first has come into being.

If you removed every verse of the both the Old and New Testaments that concern the importance of social and economic justice and how important it is to God that we serve others above and before our own needs and, most important, regardless of why they're in that situation or why they need help, then you'd end up with a very thin Bible indeed. I'll post just one here, which ought to get some freepr GlenBeckistan heads exploding:

Proverbs 14:31: "He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker but whoever is kind to the needy honors God."

And here's one just for the Wall Street goons who spend their time fattening their bank accounts by thinking of yet more ways to scam grandma out of her retirement: Proverbs 16:8: "Better a little with righteousness than much gain with injustice."

I could go on and on and on and on and on and on and on, but I'd be here all night and into tomorrow. Suffice to say, there's plenty more where that came from!!!!

6. Agree, It Is Really Hard To Read The New Testament And Ignore Social Justice...
...which underscores the power of the corporate media, which is the new god in this new technological age. Few folks actually read the Bible. I know the Bible is open to intepretation, but to what Glenn Beck is preaching about rejecting economic justice requires a dramatic revision of the Bible. You would simply have to redact large sections devoted to social justice, as you point out. Heck, you might as well as say that NOW should oppose choice, and that the ACLU should embrace censorship.

9. THANK YOU! Excellent selections and there's much more
where that comes from. I think the commands dealing with "aliens" are particularly relevant to today's situation where hate against "illegal" immigrants and, hell, even legal immigrants is rampant, especially among those who claim to profess Christianity. God knows no national boundaries or race. A human being is a human being, period.

10. I Am Almost Impressed At How The Right Wing Has Stripped Social Justice Out Of Christianity
I mean it is really hard to read the Bible and avoid issues relating to social justice or criticism of the rich. Jesus seems like a socialist. Yet, in the gospel according to Beck, you should leave your church if reference is made to social or economic justice.
