If the 14th Amendment is repealed, it needs to be repealed retroactively |
|
If your ancestors didn't come go come through Ellis Island or follow established protocol, getaoudahere. Wonder how millions of Americans would feel about having their citizenship suddenly stripped.
That's why this whole "anchor baby" argument is pure and total bullshit. These idiots don't think that immigration wasn't a concern back in the 1800's? Nowadays it's primarily Mexicans. Back then, many of the immigrants were coming from Ireland, Italy, and China, and a lot of the anti-immigrant animosities applied to them as well. Yet you didn't see any exceptions being made in the 14th amendment.
Then again, a lot of these people pushing for the repeal are the same ones demanding Obama produce his birth certificate; in other words, people who can't really be reasoned with.

16. Well, obviously we'd have to run some alternative history.... |
|
...but I'm not aware of too many holdings of the Spanish empire in the New World which remained possessions of Spain.
I mean, my goodness, if it weren't for the other European settlers in North America, the whole place would just be crawling with Mexicans.
I've been to Mexico, and I saw first hand there what happens to a country that doesn't keep Mexicans out.

15. Most of Minnesota would be just fine with that. |
|
We can date our ancestry back to the original Minnesota Viking colonies which predate all other EU decended wannabes.
Nyah, nyah, nyah.

percentage qualifies one as Native. I'm supposed to be related to Powhatan about 4 different ways. I only have some sketchy records that I have yet to see and some family lore. I do know that my European ancestors came for religious freedom. What Beck and his followers want is not freedom nor religious other than maybe as a cult of personality.

4. To get rid of Romney you would only have to go back to |
|
1880 or so. His grandparents gave up citizenship for Mexican citizenship and Romney's father was born in Mexico. So what does that make Romney.

5. I have always wondered how many conservatives |
|
can prove that their forefathers legally emigrated to the United States. It would be interesting if somehow they had to produce documentation proving that their ancestors moved here legally. I'll bet most have no idea and couldn't produce any supporting documentation.

Georgia was originally a debtors prison colony. As a for instance. Many came here to either be free of religious obligations or to settle the own little theotopia.

6. Oh for god sake. Stop worrying about repealing the constitution. |
|
All you have o do is think about what it takes to repeal or amend our const. & you'll know it just won't happen! Not only does the idea have to pass both houses of congress, ut it mustpass in 3/4 of the States. I can't think of ANY amendment on any subject that could clear that hurdle now.

11. Well shit. We'd have to recalculate numbers for the presidents, Congress, USSC, etc. |
|
A lot of them came here before we even HAD a government to set up legal immigration - George Washington for example.

12. I would have to cut myself in half! |
|
Since my grandparents on one side of my family came from one Euopean country and the other half came from another I would have to cut myself in half to go back to my native countries. Someone who is a Heinz 57 would have to cut themselves into 57 different pieces. I don't think we could live on a half body, let alone in 57 different body pieces. We're not worms which can regrow from a single piece.
