Justice Dept files suit against Arizona Community Colleges
Edited on Tue Aug-31-10 11:12 AM by SargeUNN
The Justice Department has filed a lawsuit against the Maricopa County Community College District alleging it engaged in a pattern or practice of discrimination in hiring authorized non-citizens.

The Justice Department says its investigation revealed that Maricopa Community Colleges required all newly hired non-citizens to present additional work authorization documents beyond those required by law, but did not require U.S. citizens to do so.

The Immigration and Nationality Act requires employers to treat authorized workers in the same manner during the hiring process, regardless of their citizenship status.
----------------------------------

Since most here wouldn't know, the community colleges have been underfire here for months. The Maricopa Community Colleges Governing Board has been taken over by the religious right with members like Colleen Clark (who recently resigned) and Jerry D. Walker (reprimanded for improper attacks on a student during a trip to Washington DC) and actions that put the accreditation of the schools in jeopardy.

1. Improper attacks on a student?
What does that mean?

Man, you guys are in even more trouble than we are in Illinois. I feel badly for you.

3. so much is wrong here in Arizona and this is one of many problems
The Arizona legislature is made up of about 70% birthers and of course mostly Republicans. Since our Progressive community here has been divided by defectors, Obama bashers, focus on national interest without the same interest in local and state affairs, and a so called Progressive Radio station that is more interested in bashing another Progressive show host instead of focusing on local or state issues, and even refuses callers who want to alert listeners to local issues that we need to fight but instead they focus on a national story.

The Green Party here has Republicans that ran for office just to draw votes away from Democrats to further infest the government with people like Arpaio, Pearce, and Brewer. When you have a state that is self destructive and Progressives are more interested in National issues to the point where 4 run for the U.S. Senate office but none to run for County Attorney and rely on the Republicans to put in someone who has contained Arpaio is crazy but how it is done.
