- Inauguration

- Million Man March

- NYC Anti-War Protest - March 20th, 2003

- Republican Convention Anti-War Protest - NYC

- March for Choice, 2004.

- Oh and the event you guys pissed on: MLK at the Lincoln Memorial

You guys were the minor leagues compared to what we have done!

BTW I was at all but 2 of those marches (Million Man and MLK)

3. It's summer time - perfect time to take a vacation in our nations capital.
go figure.

I stood in the fricking freezing cold so many times including a protest back in January 2003 and of course the Inauguration. But these are things I believe in and therefore I went.

7. Most word-of-mouth/internet anti war protests during the last decade . . .
. . . blew away the FailFest's attendance easily. Also, we never had Dick Armey go on every corporate channel, a major right wing pundit promoting for months on his own right wing channel, or the Koch Brothers bus people in. All grassroots, all by their own hand, all there for a purpose.

The FailFest was a Fraud.

There's no doubt Glenn Beck has a huge wingnut following. But I'd never heard of the thing until last weekend.

Edited on Tue Aug-31-10 10:24 PM by Juche
And those were local rallies, not rallies where people all over the country are supposed to congregate.

5. I doubt these people
are part of some new wave of voters either. These are the same people who vote every election cycle for the most conservative candidates running. These folks aren't people who were at any of those other marches.

We aren't going to win them over or change their minds about anything. All we can do is show up at the polls in as great a number as did in 2008 and at that point the Beckerheads will be irrelevant.

10. You don't get it.
If a couple old white guys get together on a street corner, proclaim their love for Sarah & high-powered weapons, it deserves 24-7 wall-to-wall international coverage, multiple Congressional hearings and it's own reality TV series.

If 50,000,000 liberals happen to find themselves congregated together in one place, the local traffic reporter might have something to say to inform drivers traveling through the area, but it's not news.

16. You don't get it.

How many people has the Democratic Party organized to protest or demand anything in the past two years?

The answer:

Zero

How many people did the Democratic Party organize to protest policies of the Bush administration over four years?

The answer:

Zero

How many people have liberal/progressive groups organized to demonstrate in Washington for jobs or an end to the wars in the past year?

A few thousand.

Can we do better?

Bet your sweet ass we can.

Progressive and liberals groups have the money and human resources to easily organize a million or more people to March on Washington, not just a rally but a street march past the White or Congress that ends in a rally.

Will they band together and build a mass movement far bigger and visible than the various "Tea Party" protests?

That's the question.

There seems to be a massive political paralysis on the left in part due to pressure from the White House to do nothing!

On November 2nd there is suppose to be a March on Washington to jobs organized by the AFL-CIO, the NAACP and other major progressive organizations.

Is there any sign in your community that progressive organizations are mobilizing to participate in this event? Anything significant at all?

If not, the October 2nd action might be a rather small event (100,000 or less participants) not anywhere near the size and power possible.

Now I really get annoyed at hearing people whine endlessly about the lack of mass media coverage at progressive demonstrations.

To me, that's just another lame excuse to justify paralysis and inaction.

Organizing mass protests is one vital element involved in building ongoing mass movements for change.

Saw one served a concrete pizza just this morning.

He questioned why DUers are still arguing the numbers. I told him like I'll tell you... we argue against LIES daily... that's a big part of what we do. Then we hammer at the truth to be sure it's the absolute truth... then we spread the truth.

26. I know I was with you at the March for Choice and the GOP
Convention in NYC. I don't know if you remember. The Convention protest is when I first met Priyanka, btw. At the women's march in DC I can remember GOPisEVIL brought brownies for us from that one DUer from Texas who never posts here anymore. I am sure Skinner and Earlg were there as well. I was also at the March 2003 NYC anti-war one but I don't think I was with you. Those NYC anti-war marchs and the convention one seemed so damn HUGE. Hell the impromptu protest outside the Mormom Temple in NYC after prop 8 passed seemed quite big. big i digress....

sorry to hijack this into a personal direction but those pics made me a bit nostalgic. Those we attended seem ages ago. :hi:

If we all agree Beck is a douche anyways? If millions of us marching couldn't stop the Iraq War, why do we care whether Beck's attendance was 100k or 200k?

the number of them doesn't mean Beck is any better or righter or more important or wiser, all it means is that humans are dangerously DUMB. We've had too much talk about the crowd size, one thread would be enough.
