Earl's cone keeps drifting westward |
|
Yesterday the meteorological prognosticators showed the western edge of the cone just offshore of the US east coast. Today they're showing it a hundred miles or so inland.

3. It's a 4 for at least another day |
|
should then drop to a 3. No firm evacuation talk but FEMA is warning those in coastal areas along the East Coast, especially in the Carolinas right now to get their stuff together just in case.

8. Thanks- I opened DU, so I have not had time to look up the LBN. |
|
I hope the folks in the Carolinas are taking the possible need for evacuation seriously. I also hope those states have better plans for people who don't have transportation than Louisiana did in 2005. BHN

7. A hurricane plowing up the east coast is a frightening prospect. |
|
New York and Boston are particularly vulnerable to direct hits. Richmond, DC, Baltimore, and Philadelphia have buffers. New York and Boston are directly on open water, New York more so, even, than Boston.

9. I'd be getting pretty worried, I think, if I lived anywhere near |
|
that cone of probability.
That said, the Twin Cities are facing some possibly severe thunderstorms tonight, so I guess we all have our weather issues to watch out for. Be safe, everyone.

23. It sort of passed by Saint Paul, fortunately. |

For some reason, a lot of storms seem to track north and south of us. We normally just get the fringes. I'm not sure why.

"Keeps Drifting Westward" could be their first album.

That tickled me...
Thanks! :hi:
Had a conversation with a friend who at one point in our chat said she felt "insane" and later that she felt "deformed."
I said Insane & Deformed sounds like a great name for a rock band.

18. The Great NYC/Boston Hurricane will NEVER include an evacuation |
|
Because 3 days out (the absolute MINIMAL time it would take to do an even partial evacuation), it will always be a 1 in 50 or 1 in 100 shot. And what politician in their right mind would evacuate a city with those odds?

24. It's been a long time since a hurricane has come through Maine |
|
I'm hoping it will be even longer too. If it does come through here, I'm hoping we don't get any major damage to our house/property.
Last time I had to deal with a hurricane was Labor day weekend 2004 with that hurricane Frances. We were living down in central Florida back then. 2004 was a really crappy hurricane season for Florida. We were just renting back then, so property damage wasn't a concern for us like it would be now.
