A Small Antidote To All The OMG DEMS ARE DOOOOOOMMMMED!!!!!!!!!!!!
OFA Volunteers Hit 368,000+ for Dems this weekend

For three years now conventional political wisdom has got August all wrong. In August of 2007 the Obama primary campaign was "done." In August of 2008 Sarah Palin was a sensation who could deliver the Presidency to John McCain. In August of 2009 the tea party killed healthcare for good.

And now it's August again. Silly season. We hear the Democrats are doomed, they have no game, and the on the ground enthusiasm that powered 2008 is gone.

Wrong again.

OFA hit its goal of over 200,000 attempts at the doors this weekend and another 168,000 on the phones for Democratic candidates. Seems a whole lot of folks didn't get that memo about the "enthusiasm gap."

Granted, things ain't lookin' to great right now for Dems. But keep in mind, campaigns are only NOW getting into gear. Not very many people are paying attention yet. Things don't really start in earnest until after Labor Day.

I'm not saying things are definitely going to turn around, but I wouldn't be surprised if they do.

I believe we are seeing the Repubs peaking as we have seen at the end of August for the past few years. This has been the recent pattern. The GOP goes balls out in August, they are aided and abetted by the corporate media and things look bleak for the Dems. But ultimately it all turns out to be a lot of hype and by Nov. people are scratching their heads saying "Whuh happened?".

5. "You Are Right..."
I don't know if I'm right or not, but if I am right it's not for the reasons you stated. I actually believe that there are signs that the Repubs should make some serious gains. But that's just a snapshot of the current moment, a moment in which I beieve it's too early to make any sort of predictions with any confidence.

6. I have hope
I canvassed a lot of "soft Republicans" in our hard-core red county, and a surprising number of them are going to vote Dem for governor.

In Texas.

A Democratic governor.

In Texas.

8. The media has been pushing this story line
Because they want to create drama and OMG reactions. I do think some dems are in trouble, and some should be (Landrieu, Nelson, etc.) because they are bad dems. And I do think there will be losses, but I don't think it will be nearly as catastrophic as has been reported.

Just wait until the Sharon Angle's of the world have to finally speak during an interview or a debate. Just wait until Rand Paul gets up and says that we need to cut SS, Medicare, and allow businesses to discriminate because that is what he believes.

The Dems have to play this right. They are still sometimes their own worst enemies, but they shoudl still hold their majorities.
