Murkowski gains votes as recount begins
By Shane D'Aprile - 08/31/10 03:15 PM ET

Republican Joe Miller's lead over Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) shrunk slightly Tuesday as state elections officials began the counting of approximately 24,000 ballots cast in the state's Republican Senate primary.

After the first update from the state's Division of Elections, Miller's lead went from 1,668 votes to 1,325.

An official from the Elections Division said she expects at least 15,000 ballots to be counted Tuesday — updates on the vote count will be posted periodically on the division's website throughout the day.

That means by the end of the day, Murkowski and the rest of the world will have a pretty good idea of whether or not she can still overtake Miller in the Senate primary.

The counting of the ballots will not be continuous, though. After Tuesday, another count of ballots will not happen until Sept. 3.

2. I'm torn, but that would get a lot of ink, true. Miller might be
easier to beat.

14. I read she can't...she missed the deadline, and the Libertarians don't want her
as their candidate.

16. That's too bad -- all I'd heard was speculation. . .
but it was a pleasant prospect while it lasted. . .

6. "How to Be A Grifter" by Sarah Palin.
No. 1: Pick your target(s) carefully. Uneducated, bigoted people are best. It's easy to feed their hatred and work them up into a lather. Since they're uneducated, they won't know when they're being lied to, won't fact check, and can be convinced to part with their money easily.

No. 2: Write a book for them to buy.

No. 3: Go to high-priced speaking engagements where the idiots they will be honored to see you in person.

No. 4: Rinse and repeat.

8. I get the sense that
there is little likelihood of the Dems picking up this seat regardless of whether or not the GOP nominee is a crackpot. If that is the case a lose for Miller would be a lose for Palin, which works for me.

13. That is not necessarily true
Miller ran a very mean, smear campaign and many Republicans are very upset over it. There is a very good chance he will not get their support. while they may not be able to bring themselves to vote for a Democrat, they may just decide not to vote. I give the Democrat an even chance of winning and in fact because Miller is so radical maybe even a little better than even chance. Rememeber alaska elected a Democrat for the Senate just a couple of years ago also.

9. I think so too.. Older people often vote absentee & they may be less likely
to endorse a newcomer-nobody...and many of them may be beholden to the Murkowski family..

but if there is a strong dem running, a newcomer-nobody wacko might be easier to beat in Nov:shrug:

12. Absentee ballots always trend toward the party powers favorite
since they are the ones 'ahem' counting the votes.
