1. As good as TWC info can be
They're being hysterical about the Carolinas. The New England area is looking to get hit MUCH worse.

2. The Carolinas will face a Cat 4 or Cat 5 storm
and New England will face Cat 1 or 2 so even if the Carolinas aren't facing a direct hit, they may face more intensity than New England.

They'd better prepare for a serious storm.

5. We used to get these all the time in NC except
for the last few years (they have been going into the gulf). It's how all the pine trees in my backyard were removed. It's why our hockey team is called the Hurricanes as well.

9. It will get to the Carolinas first. They have more time to get
hysterical about New England.

3.  I'm supposed to be flying to NY frm FL on Friday-
Talk about a bizarre twist- usually I'm leaving here this time of year with a storm looming about somewhere heading to Florida (even though we've been luck till now for past few years in that nothing major has hit here). And here I am with a plane ticket to arrive in NYC at the same time as Earl. Who would have imagined...

No idea if I'll actually get there of course- a lot can happen in the next few days but frankly, I'd be very happy at this point, to just spend the weekend here at home and avoid the whole thing. Yuck.

7. I'm no good looking at these maps, but the current trajectory looks like
the worst of it will probably hit most of Jersey and SE PA ( Carolinas won't be spared )

but hey! Could be snow, right? ;)

8. They are evacuating Okrakoke
The only way to get off the island is by ferry, so it is a good precaution in case it doesn't turn north. I think the reason they are getting more frantic about the Carolinas right now is just because Earl will get there first. This is the first hurricane to threaten the east coast for a while. They are just excited right now.
