6. Statue of Sadam coming dowin
that was the day he said it.

Of course Engel put it in full context during the last day of the war coverage... when he told us that yes Iraqis did that... since they were Shia who hated Sadam... helped by Marines who were avenging 9.11, with a Tower flag as well.

That was the NIGHT Tweety said that.

9. you mean the FAKED propaganda moment to prop up Chalabi moment...
http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,993909,00.html

Time magazine, as usual, proves its irrelevance by being only a year late reporting the (some of) truth... and ignoring a BIG part of it...

10. Actually Mr. Engel gave a very valid explanation to it
one that was far more "true" than this... and one that any Intel Officer worth his or her worth, would have been able to spot sectarian problems.

But that is ok.

I guess all was done by the CIA (which did not acknowledge bombs or WMDs), and of course we could not see LOCALS actually being pissed at Sadam since their MAJORITY group was under great pressure and threat by the Sunni...

But carry on... all is a conspiracy made up by central casting at Langley. I guess so is this presidency... manufactured at Langley... too.

By the way... while you show me this... I've watched many a feeds from many a news media of what happened there by many outlets...

17. Engel went over that
Edited on Tue Aug-31-10 08:34 PM by nadinbrzezinski
oh two weeks ago on the RM show... he and RM went into depth over that, and other events during the war...

Oh and sorry if you felt insulted but I have gotten pretty tired of the undercurrent of conspiracy that runs through the US... I know it is historic... and OLD, but that don't mean I am not tired of it.

21. oh, I took one minute and found a link
http://milazzonpolitics.com/tag/richard-engel/

Remembering the Fall of Baghdad with Richard Engel on Rachel Maddow.

And, in everything he says, he says absolutely NOTHING to dispute the fact that Chalabi was flown in by Wolfowitz, along with his crew, when the statue was pulled down.

Time also talks about Chalabi being flown into Iraq at that time.

So, whatever you wanted to refer to as a conspiracy theory in my post is in no way disputed by anything Engel said.

Because the truth is that, as noted in the video - Engel reinforces what my post refers to - which is that the event as it was presented on American tv, as Maddow notes, was nothing like the event as it occurred - it was no "fall of the Berlin Wall" equivalent. It was a small sectarian group and a photo op for Chalabi.

IOW, you insulted me for no reason. but, again, this is DU, so no surprise.

8. Actually, he vociferously opposed it from the beginning
It's weird to hear people all the time spew statements as fact, when they're dead wrong.

I attended a private event at which Matthews was speaking, and came to confront him over lies he'd told during the 2000 election about Gore. But before it got around to questions like that, Matthews devoted almost the entirety of his talk to railing against the war (this was in 2002, before the war even started). He excoriated the neocons (by name) in no uncertain terms. He said the war would be illegal. No problems with him about his war stance. He opposed it from before it even began.

As a postscript: my questions to him about his political chicanery during the 2000 elections so terrified him that he could barely answer. Afterward, I was having dinner with the host of the event , who told me Matthews had asked "who was that woman? I know I know her from somewhere." Hah, I'm nobody, and he never met me in his life. He was just surprised to find someone who could quote his writing and television comments, and cite Columbia School of Journalism statistics about his Gore-bashing ... and he was caught with his pants down. It was one of my proudest moments.

So no, I'm no fan of Tweety's. But on the war I give him creds. You're just dead wrong about this.

12. You'd have to give me the transcript and context ...
Because I know for a fact he despises the neocons with a passion. Maybe he meant we were all complicit in this unnecessary war. I don't know what he said. And sometimes his frontal lobe just turns off. We know he's a gaffe-prone motor mouth and often an idiot. But he was NOT saluting the neocons. That's for sure.
