It's painful that Obama gave them a pass

They fucking LIED - thank you Rachel.

have been given a pass by this administration. It makes no sense to me and leaves me feeling kind of despondent.

The media. Fox "News". Right wing Hate Radio. The cocktail crowd pundits kissing Bush's rear end. The backwood banjo playing bigots.
I remember it all.

31. It's not about winning over the GOP but about working with
the people who own this country. Bush is just one of their cabal. Obama can't open that can of worms or he finishes his career and likely the wellbeing of his family.

38. Well said. That is raw fact.
"Be the lesser evil" (and maybe do some things that are more good than evil) seems to be the range of moves he can make. CorpoDems and CorpoWhollyOwned parties assure this, as well as the threat against getting totally macho.

6. No man with a just heart could ever let tyrants escape without justice.
Obama has let one golden opportunity slip from his fingers after another. If a person does nothing to bring evil people to justice how can they consider themselves any better?

What happens to leaders when they assume power? Are the scrubbed free of any integrity, morals and sense of justice they had before? Or did they ever have these positive human traits to start with? Apparently not. And the victims of illegal wars, torture and other abuses are victimized again.

20. He won't mention the lies because he has accepted his role as the avatar for the elite
according to elite theory in politics, a few decide and create a version of "reality" that the rest of us are expected to accept.

this elite is primarily made up of rich white people who inherited their wealth and power - they did nothing to earn the privileges they have other than popping out of a rich, white vagina.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elite_theory

In order to maintain the fiction that their positions are earned, and that this nation is something other than an oligarchy, they do allow a very few who are considered minorities (i.e. people of color and women) to join in the exercise of power - but only if they do not attempt to expose the lies that enable those in power to maintain their ability to oppress others.

You see this with Obama.

You saw the oppposite of this with Teddy and Franklin Roosevelt, to large degrees (and this is why the oligarchs wanted to assassinate FDR and why they now have Democrats who are willing to fuck over poor people, widows and children by pretending this nation cannot have a functioning social safety net.

28. love both Roosevelts, Obama just put your head down & charge like a bull
& do what you had been planning during the caimpane, I know it wasn't just words but actionable plans. & others can either get out of the way or get knocked down like bowling pins. Those men did this & America was made greater as a direct result, & so did Lincoln-they did things many loudmouths claimed could never be done, "impossible", etc. Revert finally. Go Left.

Edited on Wed Sep-01-10 01:43 AM by Mimosa
It's an interesting theory. Once a middle class person is accepted into the elite his or her children benefit. It's a temptation, I guess. And some can delude themselves they are doing tremendous good in tiny 'incremental' steps.

23. If one of us committed murder could we tell the judge to "just look forward"?
That is what Obama did. He looked the other way and let murderers remain free without any charges. Obama let off known war criminals. How many human beings would Bush and gang have to kill before Obama would find it objectionable and would hold them accountable? 100,000? 500,000? 50,000,000? Hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis were killed for absolutely nothing. There were 5 times as many Iraqis killed under King George's rule of Iraq than under Saddam Hussein. Who's the bigger tyrant? Saddam was convicted and hung for killing a handful of Iraqis in 1982. Why should psychopaths like Bush and Cheney escape punishment for their many war crimes?

Edited on Tue Aug-31-10 08:19 PM by rocktivity
And there would have been no need for a surge if Bush had sent in enough soldiers in the first place. He ignored the fact that Iraq had 450,000 ex-soldiers running around loose, and fired the adviser who said he'd need at least 250,000 troops to do the Iraq right.

14. I don't think it's a President's job to go after previous Presidents, but I do
think it's somebody's job, or it ought to be. Congress maybe? The Department of Justice? The American people in a Class action lawsuit? The ACLU?

The President isn't a lawyer nor a judge nor a District Attorney. I know he wants to 'go forward' but surely someone in charge of litigation and justice can override the President. He isn't king or god.

But I do want to see war criminals brought to justice. All war criminals.

30. President and Congress both have a mandate.
Obama was supposed to have started an investigation as soon as he had evidence of a torture program. Pelosi and Reid punted many times during the last administration.

They're going to let them all go. Which is how we got the Bush government in the first place -- full of IranContra criminals.

It's too much of a distraction from the job.

Congress ought to set up an independent committee to pursue such malfeasance.
