Uh, Dear President- you might want to review these tapes.

The Kabuki Congress ignored Bugliosi.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDAFozFn4kU

Where's Mr. Bugliosi when we need him?
Perhaps he should school our president on the Bush war crimes?
http://www.prosecutionofbush.com/

And last, but not least- Keith's accounting of 8 years of Bush in 8 minutes.

2. If it requires confrontation and conflict (i.e. drama) with the right
the administration's record is to shy away from addressing the issue- much less seek accountability.

4. I don't know if he gives a shit or not- what I do know is he is not in charge.
Even if he wanted to follow the law, clearly as Bugliosi has
pointed out, there are now TWO sets of law in this country.

TPB control the White House, not elected public servants.

16. Bugliosi warned that if Bush were not held accountable,
it was the most dangerous threat to the office of the Presidency
in the history of the country- that it was a precedent that could NOT be
allowed.

Our Congress did nothing.

19. Hell! I forgot that story! GOOD question.
The outrage fatigue has taken it's toll over the years.
That's why I am so glad there are still DUers here that remember
different and various details and news stories.

Together, we continue to document and preserve information.

22. Yup. He couldn't prosecute anyone for doing stuff he planned to do.
Torture? He continues to do it.

Spying on Americans? He refuses to give up any information about it, or any authority to continue doing it, and we can only assume the government continues doing it because of the stonewalling and defense of it.

Rendition? He continues to do it.

War crimes in Afghanistan? He continues to do it.

War crimes in Iraq? He claims we have left Iraq so we can't be doing this anymore. But we still have 50,000 troops, plus at least 70,000 contractors and mercenaries over there, and growing, who aren't answerable to local laws. Rocket attacks and IED attacks are still happening, so it's naive to think counterattacks aren't happening too. That means even more civilian deaths and atrocities. Have the CIA and military prisons with their famous Rape Room interrogation centers been closed down yet? I'm guessing he continued to do it.

If Obama prosecuted the Bush administration for doing any of this stuff then he would have to expect the next administration to prosecute his administration for doing the exact same stuff. But if he gives the Bush administration a free pass, he sets a precedent, and he can hope the next administration follows suit. Never prosecute your predecessors. Instead, just grab as much power as you can and don't look back. :(

23. "he sets a precedent" Bugliosi's point exactly.
When Robinlynne and I went to hear him, that was one of his MAIN
warnings. That if Bush were NOT prosecuted, basically, Rule of Law
was HISTORY.

3. Or perhaps a perusal of the war diary of one iraqi women.
Bush said:
“The troops here and across the world are fighting a global war on terror. The war reached our shores on September 11, 2001.”

Do people really still believe this? In spite of that fact that no WMD were found in Iraq, in spite of the fact that prior to the war, no American was ever killed in Iraq and now almost 2000 are dead on Iraqi soil? It’s difficult to comprehend that rational people, after all of this, still actually accept the claims of a link between 9/11 and Iraq. Or that they could actually believe Iraq is less of a threat today than it was in 2003.

We did not have Al-Qaeda in Iraq prior to the war. We didn’t know that sort of extremism. We didn’t have beheadings or the abduction of foreigners or religious intolerance. We actually pitied America and Americans when the Twin Towers went down and when news began leaking out about it being Muslim fundamentalists- possibly Arabs- we were outraged.

Now 9/11 is getting old. Now, 100,000+ Iraqi lives and 1700+ American lives later, it’s becoming difficult to summon up the same sort of sympathy as before. How does the death of 3,000 Americans and the fall of two towers somehow justify the horrors in Iraq when not one of the people involved with the attack was Iraqi?

http://riverbendblog.blogspot.com/2005_07_01_archive.html

We were the terrorists. We attacked an innocent people. We committed unspeakable atrocities.

5. And the moment that chilled me to the bone was
When during the National Press Dinner at the White House,
Bush did a "comedy" routine about looking for WMDs.
I called the WH the next day to ask if he had been
examined by a mental health professional as I could not
understand how anyone in his right mind would do such a thing when
citizens in this country, who had loved ones serving, were watching.
Knowing that WMDs were the reason given for their loved ones
being caught up in the invasion and battles in Iraq.

Any one remember that night?

The ultimate mocking of our troops, our country and WE the People, by a sociopath.

Not multiple United States of Americas...

Did you watch the C-Span video?
If you had taken the time to digest the material in the links
I provided, you would have understood the reference and Bugliosi's offer
the all the US attorneys in every state.

Any contributions about the OP, or did you just stop by
to check on proper use of acronyms by your fellow members?
