Repubs "distorting" the truth about the "surge".. |
|
First of all, it took several months for the "surge" of troops to be completed by the last Administration.
The Sunni opposition had already decided to split from al Qaeda in Iraq before the surge was begun.
The US decided to pay them money, a bribe, if they would join the American forces.
The Sunni, like the Shiites, wanted to share in the American dollars being doled out in their country. It was like manna from heaven.
The "surge" was not a military surge as much as it was a money surge.
It was not what the Repubs portray. It was something totally different.

1. The surge was simply the neo-cons admitting they are wrong |

The war will not be easy and cheap. We will not be welcomed as liberators. The war will cost lives and money.

5. They Never Miss An Opportunity... |
|
...and have a compliant corporate media that gladly passes along their tripe with little comment and even less fact checking. It was sickening to see the usual suspect roll out on the cables all revising history...trying to pat themselves on the back for a war that isn't either finished nor won and, of course, without any mention of the war crimes that occured or the bogus motives and lies told the American people that have created this quagmire.
Give the GOOP credit...they've got strong "message disicpline". Talking points get out fast and echoed on hate radio and the cables so that soon the focus is away from the real issue and distorted in ways for the rushpublicans to exploit. While they all crow about how "successful" the surge was they still ignore why they had to have it in the first place and the total incompetent leadership and oversight that turned what was supposed to be a short term invasion into a long drawn out occupation.
The GOOP has gambled that the American people are both stupid and have short-term memories. They may just be right.

6. So if the surge was what ended the war how come Bush |
|
didn't set this date August 30, 2010 as the end to the hostilities and declared "Mission Accomplished" years ago.
