Democratic Party does not equal Republican Party
Edited on Wed Sep-01-10 09:33 AM by VioletLake
The Democratic Party is not the same as the Republican Party, or the imperialists would not have moved Gore out of the way in 2000; key Democrats would not have been anthraxed after 9/11; John Kerry would have won the 2004 election; the imperialists wouldn't be going to absurd and dangerous lengths to destroy President Obama.

It is clear that imperialism favors Republicans and conservatives.

Defeat Republicans and defeat imperialism.

Edit: the "<>" in the title was not visible.

4. Thanks.
Silly responses instead of something worth responding to.

6. We defeated the GOP in the last two elections....It hasn't really added
up to the drastic change we all thought we were going to get. They, elected officials, are all on the same payroll of powerful and monied interests. The few who are not are written off as crazy or unelectable by the 24 hour coporate spin machine to protect their interests.

8. What that means is that we need to work harder
What it doesn't mean is what too many people claim - that Dems and Reps are exactly the same. We may not have gotten everything we wanted, we may not have even gotten half of what we wanted. That's still not the same thing as having government working to oppose everything we stand for.

12. I repsect your opinion. I just question its real world applicability.
We need a paradigm shift in the way our government, the peopel who own our governement and the world operates. You think we can accomplish this by democratic election. Maybe in a perfect world, but with voter fraud and out right stolen elections it is not going to happen. Throw in an undereducated poeople who are spoon fed propoganda and it makes matters even harder. I do not think you can accomplish the needed paradigm shift through electoral means in this day and age.

14. Oh, we do at that.
And without a paradigm shift, things will not get better. And you're quite right - we won't be getting one through an election either. But things can certainly get worse, and the thought of Sharron Angle and Rand Paul in congress are the kinds of things that I think of as worse.

15. On that I agree with you. My buddy works for Murkowski. He is a
Staunch GOPer, but not a crazy one. He is totally disgusted by the jerk that won the primary. He is on par with Angle/Bachman.

11. DLC does equal GOP. Therein lies the problem. Until the Dem party is rid of them
they will act like republicans.

13. Your OP is just a restatement of "conspiracy theory" in "left-wing" clothing.

If "imperialism" means anything, then "American interests" = American International Business interests = "Empire" and imperial wars = "Imperialism".

Since WW2 (and arguably, well before that), there has been remarkable agreement between the two major political parties on "American interests". The Republicans have no particular "advantage" when it comes to war or "imperial initiatives".

Further, "imperialism" defines an interest, and not a uniform political tendency. "Imperialists" back both political parties. It is not at all clear that "imperialism favors Republicans and conservatives." Some "imperialists" favor Democrats and some drift back and forth. They are no more united than dog-lovers.

In 2008, "Wall Street" backed Obama. "Wall Street" = Finance Capital, which is the genesis of modern imperialism. Did that mean that you voted for McCain? To "defeat Imperialism"?

Al Gore and John Kerry may be stellar fellows (or not) but that has nothing to do with whether they are "imperialists" or supported by the bulk of imperialists at any one time, nor is there any indication that they were defeated by a cabal of "imperialists". They had many enemies without any such cabal.

Defeating Republicans doesn't defeat "Imperialism", any more than defeating Democrats does. Opposing Empire is a bi-partisan (or non-partisan) affair.

17. Other than the brief watergate interlude, 72-80,
the Democratic Party has been nearly identical to the Republican Party in terms of foreign policy since WWII. This is not a distinguishing feature. In addition, where there were in the past distinct differences in domestic policy, those differences have branched into two separate streams. Domestic economic policy has moved ever rightward, with both parties now openly supporting what used to be considered far right free market fundamentalist, or more accurately Chicago School Neo-Liberalism. The one area where there are differences that matter is within the arena of the so-called 'culture wars': reproductive rights, civil rights extended to include sexual orientation, the role of the christian religion within our government, etc.

This is a gross over simplification that illustrates my disgust with the status quo:

We have two corrupt rightwing political parties that share a strangle hold on power, one of them doesn't openly hate gays, the other does.

18. Thanks for your thoughtful response.
Do you think that Al Gore would have invaded Iraq? Depending on the circumstances, a small difference can produce significantly divergent outcomes.

19. No and that is why he was robbed.
The fix was in because Iraq was in the plan. I have no idea what the back up plan was, but I'm sure it involved his running mate.
