Obama has been clear on his Faith:
"So one Sunday, I put on one of the few clean jackets I had, and went over to Trinity United Church of Christ on 95th Street on the South Side of Chicago. And I heard Reverend Jeremiah A. Wright deliver a sermon called "The Audacity of Hope." And during the course of that sermon, he introduced me to someone named Jesus Christ. I learned that my sins could be redeemed. I learned that those things I was too weak to accomplish myself, He would accomplish with me if I placed my trust in Him. And in time, I came to see faith as more than just a comfort to the weary or a hedge against death, but rather as an active, palpable agent in the world and in my own life.

It was because of these newfound understandings that I was finally able to walk down the aisle of Trinity one day and affirm my Christian faith. It came about as a choice, and not an epiphany. I didn't fall out in church, as folks sometimes do. The questions I had didn't magically disappear. The skeptical bent of my mind didn't suddenly vanish. But kneeling beneath that cross on the South Side, I felt I heard God's spirit beckoning me. I submitted myself to His will, and dedicated myself to discovering His truth and carrying out His works."

This is from his excellent speech to the UCC general synod. The link to the entire speech is here:

That said, I think it was a major mistake to throw Rev. Wright under the bus. The edited videos were a personality assassination similar to the Sherrod Brown videos. Trinity is one of the flagship churches in the UCC. A predominately white church, whose social justice work extends back to the Amistad.

1. Do you think that HIV/AIDS is a conspiracy by the U.S. government?

3. No, but have you heard of the Tuskegee Experiments
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuskegee_syphilis_experiment

It's easy to understand how a black man of his generation could believe that that would be plausible. Do you believe in throwing away a lifetime of incredible work because of one stupid theory. If you judged DU like that, you wouldn't be here.

5. I've heard of the Tuskegee experiments, yes.
That doesn't give anybody the moral right to have the shit-for-brains required to believe this HIV/AIDS shit.

8. I think you have poop for brains to buy the media
narrative that this was in any way central to preaching and the building of this important institution to helping the poor in Chicago.

4. What does that have to do with Obama and faith?
As to a conspiracy involving retro viruses and their propagation and spread - well we will never know the answer to that. Considering the things that have come out in the past involving syphilis, radiation, LDS and so forth it is quite possible that one or more governments including ours is complicit. But as I said, "We will never know." so it's a moot point.

7. OP's upset that Obama "threw Wright under the bus."
This HIV/AIDS shit is good enough reason to get rid of the guy.

"well we will never know the answer to that."

Yeah, yeah. All of the evidence was buried under the 9-11 when they used the mini-nukes.

2. Well, personally I don't care...
I think it would be great if he were indeed a Muslim and it was OK. It would be a sign that the United States has fulfilled its promise to the world, and become a true Haven of freedom and a true implementation of its Constitution. Ah, but we are soooo far from this...

9. Why do we keep allowing the RW to hijack our important
messages by having us try to defend his faith? As you remember, they weren't saying he was a Muslim when they were bashing him for the Christian church that he was worshipping in. At that time, he was just a bad black Christian. Now they throw Muslim in there and here we are debating it with them. Give me a break.

10. Who cares?
He has the right to believe anything he wants or nothing at all with respect to matters of faith.

Trying to explain or defend his beliefs to those who want to make him fit into some little box just legitimizes their desires.
