1. A few cops locally
and we had more than anything jobs that did not go away...

You can research this... but jobs have been preserved that otherwise would have been gone.

But locally... the sim paid for a few cops and a few teachers... as well as a few jobs in windows and other construction trades.

6. A lot of road work and harbor and airport work going on where I live.
Quite a few teachers are working that otherwise would have been laid off.

11. In Oakland we lost 80 cops because of the budget crisis
I'm waiting, along with many for the criminals to get wise to this and start a crime spree.

2. Lots of infrastructure work being done...
All over CA, and according to threads on this weeks ago, it's going on in a lot of other states too.

12. They've been working on a state road since early this year.
I live right off of it and lately it has been a pain in the ass as there are only two ways to get to my place off of the road.

They are increasing lanes from 2 to 3 each way.

18. My street leads north to a fwy... and south to another...
It was pretty beat up. We've had miles of improvements lately. There was a sign touting the project as a stimulus deal, but I haven't seen one around in a while. Like I said to a poster above... there was much poutrage over the cost of the signs, so...

16. They have a major loop interchange and service roads project going on
in my little town. They've resurfaced the main north-south highway also. I haven't seen any signs indicating the funds were provided by stimulus money but all the action did coincide with it's distribution. And the signs may be there and I just haven't seen them (I don't go that way much).

17. There was so much poutrage about the cost of those signs...
It's possible they don't put them out anymore.

Always something!

7. that URL lists 671,928 jobs
That means 2.3 million jobs were "saved" to get to the 3m. I always hated the "created or saved" without a clear, upfront definition of how "saved" would be measured. It was a way of avoiding accountability.

Someone asked earlier if we have become too cynical. I would say we are not too cynical as long as we let them get away with claiming success in a situation like this. They can claim they were wrong and we need a bigger stimulus and I'm ok with that. But claiming they were right and the stimulus worked but we need a bigger stimulus makes me think they are out of touch or clueless and I unwilling to give them more money until they can show an understanding of reality.

9. Unfortunately they were offset by state and local government
cutbacks. Hard to believe but things would be twice as bad without the stimulus.

10. Remember a States were given funds so as not to lay off Teachers
Firefighters and Police.

In Ohio, Columbus, local NBC News have daily covered the jobs
being created. In many different fields, jobs have been creatd.
There is all kinds of construction and road work going on. If
you drive you cannot miss it.

13. Part of the problem is that where there is funding by the federal government...
the local governments have been cutting back too.

mostly road and sewer work.

A call center is moving in, bringing 700 jobs.

21. I would estimate that 80% of my billable work for the last year
has been funded by ARRA money. Without it, we were probably going to have to let some people go. We did end up creating some temporary positions through it, though, so there were a bunch of people who got paid well for a short period of time.
