While Tea Party Candidate Joe Miller Complains about Federal Government, Alaska Swims in Federal Dollars

Here’s The Quitter’s cabana boy, Teabagger Joe Miller, after successfully purging Lisa Murkowski from the US Senate.

Now is the time for all Alaskans to come together and reach out with our core message of taking power from the federal government and bringing it back home to the people. If we continue to allow the federal government to live beyond its means, we will all soon have to live below ours.

But Alaska is already “bringing it back home to the people.” It’s the biggest welfare state in the union – by far.

Today the Census Bureau has released updated figures on how much each state receives in federal funding per capita, and once again Alaska came out on top.

Alaska received nearly twice the national average, taking in $20,351.13 per resident, the most of any American state. The state with the second-highest total in per-capita federal funds received was Virginia, at $19,734.

20K per resident! That’s more than half the per capita income of Mississippi.

So will Joe Miller put an end to all this federal welfare that his state’s getting? Or is he just another Red State hypocrite, denouncing “pork” while greedily gorging at the federal trough?

- And then there's also this:

Leery of Washington, Alaska Feasts on Its Dollars

Joshua Borough for The New York Times

Carl Gatto, a Republican state lawmaker, along a federally funded highway project in Wasilla, Alaska. “I’ll give the federal government credit: they sure give us a ton of money,” Mr. Gatto said.

4. Alaska - the home of pure Socialism
Lets all remember that Alaska is without a doubt the most socialist state in America, if not the world.

No where else is revenue 'stolen' from the angelic oil corporations and given directly to the leeches (citizens).

Marx would be so proud. Taking from those who have and giving it to those who do not.

Oh, and lets not forget North Dakota, the second most socialist state in America, and the only state with its own state bank, where the banks profits are returned to the state's treasury. Yes, thats right, the State runs the bank, and share the profits with the greed suckling pigs of Republican strong hold North Dakota.

Republicans love socialism.

10. It's disgusting, isn't it?
Alaska's socialist constitution says that the PEOPLE of the state own the resources. It's just AWFUL.

6. Yep like Sarahcuda isn't offended by the "wealth redistribution" in AK
When she and all her kids get checks from the oil companies I think the reason it's OK is because "it's unique!" Um, huh? Put up or shut up!

7. Hypocrisy might not be the best angle on this one.

The Dem (Scott McAdams) could simply say that he (McAdams) will bring Alaska its "share" of the federal pie like Ted Stevens did. Miller is a hard core anti-government fanatic who would leave Alaska out in the cold. I.e., appeal to "not getting your share" rather than a self-righteous condemnation based on hypocrisy.

Even with all the publicity he got in the past couple of weeks and with having spent $600,000 on the primary alone, as of last night he led Democrat Scott McAdams, who was basically unknown outside of Southeast Alaska before primary night, by only six points.

I've read comment after comment at the Anchorage Daily News site from long-time Republicans who say they will be voting for a Democrat for the first time EVER in November.

Republicans here shot themselves in the foot. Turnout at the primary was only 27%, at least here in Anchorage, and there was a statewide ballot bait measure regarding parental consent for teenage abortions that brought out the fundies. I should also mention that the Republicans have a closed primary, so this is what they get. With an open primary, Lisa would have won handily.

This could be the upset of the year.

And once again, I would like to remind people that Alaska has only been a state for 50 years. The rest of you had quite a head start on us as far as federal spending in your states. We don't consider harbors and roads and getting rid of honey buckets in the villages as pork, but you can think what you want.

Please do check out Scott McAdams. I'm liking him more all the time. Even without Joe the Teabagger, McAdams would be a great candidate. www.scottmcadams.org
