Will this be the last straw?
Liberals have held their noses at a whole lotta things. I gave it up (remaining a nominal Democrat), but wonder what the folks here are gonna do if this happens?

"Democrats in Congress are poised to play a leading role this month in thwarting their party's effort to raise income tax rates on the wealthy.

Tax cuts enacted in 2001 and 2003 expire at the end of this year. President Barack Obama and Democratic congressional leaders have been eager to extend the breaks for individuals who earn less than $200,000 annually and joint filers who make less than $250,000. Those who earn more would pay higher, pre-2001 rates starting next year.

However, a small but growing number of moderate Democrats are balking at boosting taxes on the rich. Many face electorates that recoil at the mention of any tax increase. Some represent areas that are loaded with wealthier taxpayers. Further, some incumbent senators who don't face voters this fall are reluctant to increase taxes on anyone while the economy remains sluggish.

Without their support, the push to raise rates on the rich probably will fail."

I am afraid that November will be even more of a bloodbath for the Republican wing of the Democratic Party, than even most believe. And, why not?

i don't even recognize most of the Democratic party anymore they have strayed SO far from their values. Fuck the DLC, and fuck right-wing Dems - they are bad for the party, they are bad for the country. Soon I guess I'll be a DINO of sorts - cause I just don't see the Dems standing up FOR the people and AGAINST big money interests like they should. There need be no straw to break my love of many of these current Dems. Sigh... :(

6. The way things are heading now
The most liberal of the candidates are going to hide their true beliefs or not get anywhere near to being in public office. Liberal is a naughty word to be feared and ashamed of.

3. edzachery how much do our representatives make?
would you vote to increase your own taxes? If you made over $5000.00 gross income per week, 52 weeks a year? I doubt it.

Why would someone spend 50 million dollars to win a governorship in Florida?

What the fuck is wrong with these two scenarios?

To have the power to advance the cause of the industries they either gain from, or have relatives who gain from them.

Mystery solved.

4. All it takes is one real Democratic Senator to filibuster it.
Edited on Wed Sep-01-10 06:16 PM by Winterblues
I doubt there will be sixty one votes to overcome a filibuster. It would take twenty Democratic Senators to side with Republicans .If Democrats don't then yes I am done...Remember Democrats don't have to do anything..The tax cuts are set to expire. I say let them all expire on time and then down the road put together some sort of middle class tax relief if it seems necessary..

5. Oh they'll break that fillibuster....
I'm sure we'll see plenty of Democratic leadership arm twisting from Reid and Obama in an effort to break THAT filibuster. I'm sure THAT would end up with them taking action and removing people from leadership positions.

I guess we'll finally see what they can do when they really want something.

14. Who would be the most likely
Senator to filabuster? Maybe we should start a campaign putting pressure on that Dem Senator now.

7. For all the "changes" that we have seen since 2008...
we could almost just as well have had a repuke congress....and the President would have vetoed the worst of what they passed.

9. Why can't they do it through reconciliation
The cuts expire under the sunset clause correct? The Republicans wrote that tax cut for the rich in such a way that would allow them to bypass them increasing the deficit and they did it via reconciliation.

But then again - I don't see why it's EVEN a question for these to remain. They've been proven to increase the deficit - so legally - I don't think it can be done. The Ways and Means committee would be remiss if they didn't require the law to be adhered to.

11. If I've learned one thing in the past 25 years...
... it's that if the rich want it, the rich will get it.

No matter what, they're going to keep and probably get another tax cut.

12. a "Tax Increase", huh? That's after they just got a TAX CUT during a time of WAR!
Edited on Wed Sep-01-10 07:26 PM by fascisthunter
We can't survive the upper class's greed and fear of living with less. They will have to learn to live a bit more within their means. As for wealth being a determinant factor of one's right to live better than most, I see that as a inexplicably unfair advantage and a lame excuse for taking more than one needs.

It's not as if they were being forced to sacrifice that much when you really look at it all. What we slave for just to make ends meet, they throw away in an instant for self-satisfaction even in the face of abject poverty around them. A very high percentage of folks living that well were born into this lifestyles, getting a leg up on the rest who scrounge for what little they can make. Why? Because somebody was born to a more affluent family. They didn't earn a thing until they had no choice just as most of us had no choice growing up with all the resources one would need to succeed in this world.

Since the 50's, this parasite class has bitched and moaned about paying their fair share... it STILL ISN'T ENOUGH and we are seeing the direct result today! People are insane to not be able to see what's going on. This reminds me of a tale of natives on Easter Island consuming until there was no more, hence the end to their civilization only to be reminded of it's inhabitants from large stone statues moved by lumber. Hmmm... they must have had a lot of trees...

Edited on Wed Sep-01-10 07:23 PM by McCamy Taylor
The only way the behavior of the so called Blue Dogs makes sense is if they are already working for the RNC to make the party of the donkey look like a horse's ass.

I don't necessarily agree about the bloodbath part, but a placton post is rare. The rest I agree with. Moderate Dems will cave.
