Student loan debt now exceeds credit card debt.
as reported on tonights Nightly business report.

Is that because record personal bankruptcies have now discharged enough massively inflated debt?

1. student loans, a new racket in the past 10 years?
When i was in college over 20 years ago, at a state university, i was able to pay for most of my tuition and living expenses on my own. i qualified for in-state tuition because i worked over 20 hrs a week.

Few weeks ago, a colleague (think he got his degree within the past 5 years) told me owed $90k in student loans. Doctors and PhDs enter the workforce owing over twice that amount.

:wtf:

How are people supposed to begin their lives in the 'real world' with such an awful weight on their shoulders?
:(

2. I owe $0 to credit cards. $30k to SallieMae.
Which can't be discharged. I think you make a good point. ALL debt can be discharged (loans, medical bills, etc...) with the exception of student loans which follow you beyond the grave.
