Mr. President, 50% of the country supports marriage equality |

It isn't a radical position in 2010 - by a long shot.
And there is an easily crafted position you can take to move over from the side that supports discrimination.
"I support civil marriage equality - the piece of paper you get down at city hall. I also support the right of churches to refuse to marry any couple that they believe does not adhere to the doctrines of their church. We have to separate church from state on this issue. The government should not discriminate when it comes to civil marriage. But the churches should also be free to marry, or not marry, whomever they so choose. My own religious beliefs on this are irrelevant."
That wasn't so hard now, was it, Mr. President?
