Jeremy Scahill: "Shouldn't be able to leave their houses without being confronted with the death..."
"These people have a Ph.D in lying and a master's degree in manipulating intelligence. And it is, it's really sobering to see this kind of brash historical revisionism happening in real time. The idea that these people want to post some kind of false flag of victory on the corpses of all who have died in Iraq because of their decisions. These people destabilized Iraq, they destabilized the Middle East, with their neo-con vision of redrawing maps, and they didn't even succeed in their own stated mission. This is a special kind of pathological sickness that these individuals are plagued with."

"Pardon me for introducing a little bit of fact onto cable news over these 24 hours, but the reality is there was no success of the surge. The fact is that Bush's policy in Iraq caused massive destabilization, led to a civil war that killed upwards of a million Iraqis; there were ethnic cleansing campaigns. When the surge troops went in there, Baghdad was a walled-off city, the Sunnis had been pushed out and sided with the United States, Muqtada al Sadr responded to the announced timetable for withdrawal that the neo-cons so opposed by saying he considered it a truce with American and pulled his forces off the street... So, the entire surge myth permeates to this day, and its actually one big lie."

"Let's remember... that it was the Bush administration's policy in Iraq that created an al Qaeda presence in that country. It was their policies that destabilized that country and caused the deaths of so many Americans and so many Iraqi civilians. Stephen Hadley probably sees Osama bin Laden at his corner store or hiding in his bathroom somewhere, so... These people have ZERO credibility, and have no business in public life anymore. They shouldn't be able to leave their houses without being confronted with the death and destruction that their lives caused."

- Jeremy Scahill, appearing on Countdown w/ Keith Olbermann, Sep. 1, 2010

The hatred was dripping from his words. I feel the same hatred towards these war criminals - Jeremy Scahill speaks for me.

A truth-teller!!

A truth-teller.

Finally.

This is the kind of fighter that has been absent from the national discourse.

Another reason to subscribe to The Nation now.

14. I think Scahill's thesis is dead on.
Instead of bringing in a forward-moving element to Iraqi society, we facilitated all its worst reactionary components.
They found tradition, and with it, violence amongst each other.
Saddam Hussein was better for Iraq than we were. And that's a fact our government can't stomach.

Kudos to those who buck that trend.

16. listening to NPR this morning, I was screaming at my radio...
...when the newscaster referred to Petraeus as having to "repeat the success in Afghanistan." The success he referred to, of course, was the war against Iraq. One of our worst crimes against humanity this decade is now being recast as a "great success." It is sickening. Thank goodness for the few honest journalists like Scahill who speak up when the emperor walks naked.

31. NPR - Nice Polite Republicans
I remember the old public radio. Seems like ages but it was really just 10-15 years ago before Bush* cleaned the leadership out and recast its purpose. Now, they spout careful propoganda with conservative views about 4 to 1. They even have long ads now for "charities".

Yet another Bush* legacy we have to live with.

34. Today someone referred to it as National PETROLEUM Radio.
I wish I had seen that segment with Scahill.

That guy is lucky to still be alive. He's taken on Blackwater/Xe and the Neo-Conspirators-Who-Should-Be-Neo-Convicts from day one. He is truly an American hero.

21. The images of the results of our bombs and weapons should be plastered all over the networks daily.
You know why they won't let that happen. They learned from Vietnam about what happens when the people see what war is and what their taxes go for.

22. It's even better reading it. Now THAT is
a 'value' we need across the county. One of my long standing rants, against the rat bastards, was very similar to what Scahill said last night. (every time they walk out the front door, they should see pictures of the death they caused). His passion was so deep and sincere, it even left Keith a little dumb struck for a second or two.
