On Tuesday, General Petraeus Achieved Victory in Oceania; On Wednesday, He Led Us to War against Eastasia

The day after Obama declared victory (sort of) in Iraq, the Administration announced a whole package of sanctions against the Pakistani Taliban, Tehrik-e Taliban. The sanctions:
http://www.state.gov/s/ct/rls/rm/2010/146597.htm

* Designate TTP as a Foreign Terrorist Organization
* Designate TTP as a Special Designated Global Terrorist Organization
* Designate TTP’s two leaders, Hakimullah Mehsud and Wali Ur Rehman, as Special Designated Global Terrorists
* Offer of $5 million reward leading to Mehsud or Rehman’s arrest
* Charge Mehsud in connection with the Khost killings

Forgive me if I dismiss what are real measures against a genuinely dangerous organization. But I can’t help but suspect this lays the ground work to ensure we have a war against terror to fight (and with it, expanded executive powers) beyond July 2011.

2. It is my understanding that we've
always been at war with Eastasia. Oceania has always been our ally. I heard it on the viewscreen just yesterday. Choco rations are going up next week too. All is well.

Have never belived to live to the day, when 1984,would be any near reality.. At least not in my life time, and NOT in US... The similarities between 1984 by Orwell, and some parts of US policy today, is making me jumpy, to say at least.. This is really scary, as Orwell was writing of what the "future" would be, if Stalin had made the big move west, and occupied most of Europe, even UK, and even tho it is just fiction, it is one of the most influensal books I ever had the pleasure to read.. One of the others was "the day after" who also was made into a movie in 1983... Wel, over the years I have read a lot of books who have influenced me over the years, but I have to say 1984 really innfluensed me a lot
