I inadvertantly infiltrated a Rethug event this past Sunday.
Edited on Thu Sep-02-10 04:21 PM by arbusto_baboso
Let me explain.

Both my wife and I are civil servants. Last Friday, my wife found out about an event for public sector employees being sponsored by Elton Gallegly's office. Now, I hate Gallegly's tiny race-baiting heart with the heat of a thousand suns, but any event that shows gratitide for civil servants, well.... I'm there, since we get so little. Besides, it included a free ride on the Fillmore and Western Railway and a BBQ tri-tip lunch, all free of charge.

Turns out the whole thing was a Gallegly campaign event!

Let me tell you it was tough to sit quietly listening to ultra-righties tell all the nasty jokes and run down all the people, programs and ideas that we DUers value. And let me state categorically that all of the horrible nightmarish thoughts we have about how stomach-churning it would be to be in such company are well-founded.

And yet, what my wife and I basically feared more than anything was being found out. We felt like infiltrators. Spies if you will. We were sweating like whores in church. It was especially tough the TWO times Gallegly shook my hand. ( And should anyone think I should've spoken my mind, let me remind you we were on a moving train, and these were Republicans... )

Now? Well, I see it this way. Either Gallegly was using his own campaign $ to fund this, in which case, fuck him we got him to spend his money on US. Or, he was using taxpayer $, in which case we were frickin' entitled to this!

I've seen the other side folks. It's just as ugly as we believe it is.

10. How about this. Keep the unrec function but REQUIRE...
a post explaining why the DUer unrecced it. I'd be okay with that. When someone explains to me what they have a problem with, I may not agree, but I can respect it.

11. First I liked your op. But why does it matter. I've old people why I unrecced and gou
tons of lip for it. In the scheme of things good posts are the ones that spark discussion regardless of recs & unrecs.

Basically recs and unrecs don't mean shit.

You guys have got to let it go and give it a rest.

15. SHHH! Here's a secret....
When you whine and bitch about someone unreccing your thread, you get a whole bunch of "sympathy recs" from others to offset things.

A large part of my indignation is to boost the thread.

comment on their own thread and thus kick it.

6. It is likely uglier than we could ever begin to imagine
if only the hardcore RW were to realize all of their hopes, wishes, and desires becoming fulfilled.

Tens of millions in the US alone ultimately would "regrettably" (but necessarily) perish, and most conservatives would not even bat an eyelash, even if it resulted in tens of thousands of their own ideological kind being sacrificed on the altar of "personal responsibility" as well.

It would be much like the systemic genocide of millions of native Americans, but probably in a much shorter period of time, occurring over several decades, instead of several centuries.

I live in the 24th and I fucking hate that guy. However we have a great candidate with Tim Allison, he has a lot of support in the business community and is much more liberal than I would have expected a dem in this district to be. Anyone in this district should be doing some volunteer work for his campaign, at the least get some brochures and walk around your neighborhood.

This is a wacky district but it galls me that we are probably stuck with him until he retires. Good thing he hates the Stricklands, who I detest more than I detest him. And thank God McClintock moved up north.

42. Everyone hates the Stricklands
even republicans. But yeah, this district is a trip, its been trending democratic for like a decade but there is just too much big business here, whether its defense companies or pharmaceuticals like Amgen which is like its own little town in Newbury Park. There is just too much money moving in and out of this district. I mean seriously, Westlake is like a mini Colorado Springs.

Aside from your report the most memorable thing I've ever read about Gallegly is the SB Independent's years-ago assessment of him as "a right-wing spitwad."

Was the tri-tip BBQ good, at least?

Edited on Fri Sep-03-10 05:05 PM by GreenTea
want or can really believe what truly lying, hateful greedy, manipulating elitist corporate racist diabolically slimy republicans really are - Republicans are narcissist selfish people who really believe that they are better than others, especially people of color.

Republicans also believe (taught & teach) that this country really only belongs to them - That money the more someone has, the more the republicans worship that person and believe that person are even better people, no matter how diabolically that person got their money and who they fucked over to get it.

These are republicans, shallow people, selfish as the day is long, born with all the characteristics of sociopaths, egotistically believing that only they deserve all the benefits, that they are special and will anything to make sure they get what they want....Fuck everyone else, habitual liars are who they are - money is their god - hating and ridiculing people who are different is their pleasure.....

Republicans NEVER ever accept responsibility for their fuck-up or their lies or their intentional diabolical deeds - They ALWAYS point their finger at others, that some else is to blame never them - They lie and lie, distort & smear. They will never change, it's easier to blame others.

Republican ideology is all about greed - fuck the have nots, the less fortunate - it's everyone for themselves - take lie and steal, then deny it all and blame others.

You don't believe this to be true?

I was redistricted out of Brad Sherman's territory some years ago. Gallegly's the lowest of the lowlife. There was once a thread on DU devoted to how he threw a group of Dems out of his office. He's a smarmy SOB, but the clueless Ventura county bottom feeders keep re-electing him anyway because of the R after his name. Bunch of morons out here. How horrible that you ended up at a fundraiser. I would have choled on that tri-tip.
