OK, I try to defend the milennials, especially since some(not all) Boomers do not cut them a fair break. They inherited a much different world then the Boomers, or even Gen X did. I also distrust the NYT, as they are often trying to lurch right now. However, let me say this, if Milennials become GOP, then I will be tempted to finally hang up the flag and join the Nihilists. It's one thing to not participate, it's another to become GOP.

And please, let's not do the easy thing and blame those dern kids and their Ipods. If we have no interest in getting future generations on board, we lose all claim to being liberals.

It's a reasonable choice but it's bound to have consequences. Most Congressional Democrats still don't understand or deliver for young voters.

Still, Boomers voted for Nixon over McGovern. Gen Y is far more Democratic so far.

11. If we had real democrats

in this country fighting for real progressive values and fighting against all the obvious corruption that exists in Washington, this generation would be overwhelmingly democratic to the point where the repubs would no longer even be relevant. As others have said, this generation is pretty much 100% liberal when it comes to social issues but the reason they all dont support dems is because they see the shitty centrist members who are basically just republicans in hiding ruining the dems image and they end up seeing both parties as two sides of the same coin.

If the dems actually acted like liberals and fought for real liberal values and were wiling to come out strong against the repubs we could literally make the republicans irrelevant. Obama won because he motivated his base and brought out the youth vote. If they just tried to appeal to the youth in this country we wouldn't be worrying about this election.

Many of these first time voters waited in line to cast their vote for Obama and then left without even looking at the rest of the ballot and probably won't show up until 2012 if ever again. These types don't even pay attention to politics and will probably stay at home in November unless there's someone of celebrity status running like a washed up movie star (Arnold, Raygun, Gary Coleman) They won't vote Repuke, they won't be voting at all and there is nothing anyone can do. These aren't likely voters to begin with. If they do show up, the line will be short this time.
