I went to an Anti-War March in DC a couple of years ago with a friend

I don't recall when it was but there were a couple of hundred thousand people in DC for the anti-war march that a friend and I went to a couple of years ago. We were back at the Elipse and listened to a number of speakers and then wondered over to the Mall for more. After a while my friend asked me this, 'just what have we accomplished by being here?" From his point of view we hadn't done much but show up along with a bunch of people who felt exactly like we did about the wars but hadn't done anything to convince anyone else that the wars are wrong.

I had to explain to him that even if we never said a word, even if the media gave the event very little coverage, even if it seemed to him that nothing real was being done that all we had to do was be two faces in the crowd. And every helicopter that flew over and every Congressional Aid who looked out their office window, and all that White House staff looking out at us knew how many we were and every one of them knew that if we'd come to Washington then we'd also go to the polls and toss them out on their ears - that we were the people who cared and we were mad enough to get off our butts and say so. So just being two faces in the crowd would be enough because somewhere someone was counting. Someone always counts.

See you in DC in October. Please come be another face in the crowd because it matters. There is nothing a corrupt politician fears so much as a concerned populace.

1. kick with a story - My mom and dad had a chance to go to Dr. King's

March on Washington, but didn't go because the had five kids aged 5 to 9. I'm not sure if they felt the logistics of traveling with kids to such an event would have been impossible of if they feared an outbreak of violence. (A lot of people were hurt or killed because they took part in peaceful civil rights rallies.)

I remember my mom glued to our little black and white set, listening to the speeches as she ironed.

2. In the 70s when I worked in a congressman's office we counted each
call/letter as representing 40 people who agreed with the caller. Your faces in the crowd probably count for more than that as it is easy to do the latter and not so easy to come to DC.

4. And the main sign should say
'REPUBLICANS BE AFRAID OF YOUR JOB
BE VERY AFRAID".

They will know exactly what you mean. The have blocked and obstructed each and every bill the Democrats have proposed for the last two years. The sooner we get rid of them the better. Then maybe something can really get done.

5. To my mind the ones who better worry the most are the DINOs
I despise a Congress critter who calls themself a Democrat and then acts like a Republican. We can't get rid of them quick enough if you ask me.

9. More than a Republican?
I'm all for more progressive candidates, but the party who controls Congress controls what gets to the floor for a vote and sets the budget priorities.
