Pence says Republican majority would move first to extend Bush tax cuts. How? |
|
Even if the republicans got majorities in both Houses: 1. No telling if Obama would sign, veto, or do nothing. 2. Filibusters work both ways. See if democrats want to make sessions in the Senate a little zesty when they lose their majority. http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/116865-pence-gop-majority-would-move-first-to-extend-bush-tax-cuts

1. They would have pass new tax cuts for their wealthy friends |
|
The tax cuts are set to expire at the end of the year. IF the GOPer's take control, they would have convene until January 2011.

2. Whether or not the Repubs get back in the majority after November |
|
Almost nothing of any significance can will get done without a sudden and inexplicable outburst of genuine bipartisanship IMHO.

3. Unless the Democrats vote to extend the taxcuts... |
|
They will expire before the Republicans take power, even if they win the House and the Senate. They cannot "extend" the Bush taxcuts. They would have to pass a new law.

5. It doesn't sound like that's going to happen (thankfully) |
|
Some conservadems are talking about an "extension" but Pelosi and other House Democrats are saying no. Obama is saying no to any extension of the higher-end tax cuts, so it's almost certainly NOT going to happen. Pence is just talking about his a** making promises that they won't be able to keep.

4. Number 2...ding, ding ding, ding |

Nothing but nothing will get done if Dems lose House/Senate or both. The tax cuts will just time out the republicants can't do anything about it.

They already give enough as it is in contributions to the GOP.

8. How it works is this. Tear down Obama to get the congress back |
|
get the congress back, then ...tear down obama to get the presidency back and continue to tear down America until all their buddies have the most money and power. The GOP is one big Dick Cheney.

9. The Democrats Will Cave... |
|
Should the GOOP win the House (:scared:)...the corporate meme will go into full attack mode of how impotent President Obama is (that's already started) and how Democrats; especially the Blue Dogs will be running away from him. The frame will be that Democrats who support keeping the boooosh tax subsidies to the rich are "reasonable" and we'll see the usual suspects like Lieberman and Nelson be willing to abet the GOOP. There may just be the 67 votes for an over-ride...scared shit Democrats are an ugly sight and we may see our share of it should the media-generated trends hold true.

10. They could pass it with a simple majority the way they did last time. |
|
It's close enough to a budgetary matter to qualify for reconciliation. Ben Nelson will be lining up to vote with them, guaranteed, and probably a few more Dems, too. Remember . . . the majority of people serving in Washington are very wealthy and the tax cut benefits them. They should have to recuse themselves from the vote, but if they did there would be no one left to pass a bill.
