CNN Poll on Economy, more people blame the Republicans over the Democrats
Edited on Sun Sep-05-10 08:38 AM by cal04
CNN Poll: Number of people who say economy in very poor shape on rise

A new national poll released Sunday indicates that eight in 10 Americans say that the economy is in poor shape, and the number that says conditions are very poor is on the upswing after steady declines through the spring.

And according to a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey, more people blame the Republicans over the Democrats for the country's economic problems.

Eighty-one percent of the public rates the county's economic conditions as poor, with 18 percent describing the economy as good.

According to the survey, more Americans hold the Republicans responsible than the Democrats, with 44 percent blaming the GOP and 35 percent picking the Democrats.

"And when George W. Bush's name is added to the mix, the number who blame the Republicans rises to 53 percent, with just a third saying that Barack Obama and his party are at fault. That indicates why the Democrats are likely to mention Bush's name every chance they get between now and election day," Holland said.

1. So, how can most people want to put them back in charge?

Coupled with their already low(er) favorability rating, as well as Obama's largely stable poll numbers (which are on an upward trend at the moment) it mystifies me as to how the GOPers supposedly hold a 10-point advantage on the "generic ballot" (though I have my doubts that they actually do).

4. If you don't mind, let me point out that at this point in time
we know the candidates on each side, and in some cases on all three sides. So any poll that is using 'generic' ballots when they could be using candidate's names is doing so with intention. Not a poll to be trusted because of that. The choice is not generic it is specific as it gets.

5. Well, that's true
We know that Sharron Angele, for instance, is Harry Reid's opponent in Nevada and how well that is apparently going over- and Reid hasn't even been campaigning that hard yet.

All or most of the "news" being put out there by the corporate mediawhores (and even by some here on DU) right now seems designed to demoralize Democratic votes, as well as give the impression of a massive Republican sweep of Congress in November. :banghead:

6. Yes. It is true.
Politics is not the only area that uses polling or testing to check the public thinking. Such a poll would be laughed out of the room in actual business. In the case you cite, the question is 'Reid or Angele' and yet what they ask is 'What if it was just any Republican, not her, against any Democrat, not him?" That is nonsense. No information can come from such a fantasy set up.

7. And why do so many want to put the GOP back in charge?

8. I never thought I would say this, but the more of Bush...
...we see in the news, the better. I hope the Republicans put up a whole bunch more of those "Miss me yet?" billboards. If they don't, the Dems should. Anyone in the Republican Officer Corps in Congress should be shaking in their boots. Where's that picture of McCain hugging Bush while Bush beams "look what I own now" to the crowd?
