Repubs winning big in November??? I don't think so...
Just because we are not standing on street corners with flags and signs does not mean the majority of Dems are not ready for November, and I would include some sane repubs who are very scared of the baggers. Just because informed Dems don't pop up every Sunday morning on the chat shows doesn't mean we cannot argue a point and make many good ones. We don't shout, scream and have temper tantrums. Just not our way. All of this gloom and doom noted on DU lately comes from the media pounding numbers and percentages that really have no meaning since most of us have never been polled. The corporations are doing the messaging and many of us are buying into it.

I hear these outrageous numbers that repubs are going to gain. Think about it. Intelligent and rational people go to the polls. Just because you don't see and hear them all of the time does not mean they're not out there. Most of us are not impressed nor do we care what the Right is going on about, they've been doing it since Obama took the oath and have done nothing but obstruct. Nothing for the American people and a majority know this.

Repubs have peaked, they have little to nothing left. Democrats have not really started to campaign yet. Perhaps locally and in the big State elections for senate but in essence, we have not yet begun. I'm not thrilled to death with this administration and its veer to the right either but we sure as hell offer so much more than republicans. GOTV will be our job if we want to see increases to the Dem party winnings. The youth? They've been enjoying the summer, they'll come around. Seniors? HA! You bet they'll vote Dem with the prospect of anyone messing with their SS. Turn off the media, they are not serving us, they're specializing in pollution.

1. I didn't think Gore would lose in 2000 or Kerry in 2004 - neither did most DUers

2. I think Diebold may have had a hand in those elections but I do
see your point.

11. Obama has done nothing to reverse Diebold's influence or other electronic voting systems influence
since he got into power. In fact, any problems his administration has covered up with the "logic" that it might negatively affect Democratic turnout.

4. Thanks! I needed that reminder
I have to admit I was getting depressed, but you're right. We won the last two elections (the midterm and the Presidential) against far worse odds.

6. I wonder about that also.
Who in the world would vote for a republican during a recession?

As I said on another thread, I'm so thankful for the democrats. During hard times democrats do what needs to be done to help people out.

Like extending unemployment.

Paying for programs that help people update theirs skills.

Increasing allowances for many programs.

Offering more people food and services programs that actually do help to stimulate the economy. I noticed the stocks for many food stores have gone up since Obama and the democrats have been in office because when you increase food allowances that creates or keeps jobs for not only people who work in retail, but also for people who work in manufacturing.

All the little boxes and packages food come in, also employees needed to ship all those items, and many people are now able to buy organic and not just cheap food which has helped small organic companies.

All those things helped me hold out until I got a permanent job.

In short, I hope people will turn off Fox, and really think about it!

9. Turning off the corporate media is key. I allow no one tell me how or
what I think. So glad you got a job and turning off Fox is a real beginning.

I just posted a thread after reading an article from the LA Times this morning. Now, I've read your OP. Same sentiments. K&R.

10. The media is wrong on this
They've been wrong before.

Weren't they wrong on the mid terms when Bush was in office?

I'm not going to listen to them. Most people know how this economic insanity started.

I hate to say it but the general public ignored the demonstrators when Bush was in office and they will ignore the Teabaggers while Obama is in office.

The Teabaggers are a sideshow. People view Glen Beck's Washington thing as some kind of cult following -- Jim Jones with all the preachiness.

12. I would love to have three television sets, just the night of the election
to watch CNN and Faux, along with MSNBC just to see the pundits faces. I don't think we'll win everything but we surely will win far more than they and their corporate bosses would like to think.. They are a sideshow and people are laughing at them not with them.

14. A little optimistic
I agree with you on a few points but things are probably a little worse than you think. Basically anything can happen in the house this November, there are tons of democrats in conservative districts who would be facing tough reelections in any year but this year it is particularly bad for them. It all depends on who has the momentum going into the election. I would agree however that things can only get better, as November approaches I believe a lot of democrats who maybe haven't been too happy with Obama will start to get motivated and the independents who dont pay a lot of attention to politics will begin thinking about how they will vote.

It all comes down to two things. First off, our GOTV operation. Organizing for America has a huge GOTV operation going on right now and all of us need to be a part of it. If you are on this site and care at all about retaining democratic majorities, YOU NEED TO VOLUNTEER. This will end up making the biggest difference, we need to go out there and simply remind people to vote and remind them of whats at stake. Second, the dems in this administration and in congress need to come out strong and stop playing games. The republicans have lost their fucking mind and the dems need to make that clear to the public. Come out strong and tell people what the republicans plan on doing. Push them on social security, medicare, and jobs bills. Those are all winning issues that the repubs have no answer for.

15. I am optimistic but do appreciate your points. I think it's all of the
negativity that gets posted that makes me knee-jerk the opposite way. My TV is off during the day and I'm very careful who I watch and listen to. I'm not against another POV and often watch CNN and MSNBC when I know there will be fairness and balance to weigh in on. I do think the Repubs have peaked early and Dems are saving their resources for closer to November when people are paying attention. Thanks for your great post.

17. All the evidence currently indicates a Republican landslide.
There are many pieces of evidence that have a good track record of indicating the results of the election. Generic ballot polls, enthusiasm gap polls, individual race polls, party ID polls, etc. You can't just dismiss all of these, because historically they have a lot of predictive power for what the result is (within a range).

Right now, the evidence indicates that the Republicans will pick up somewhere between 40 and 80 house seats. There is basically no evidence that says that we will maintain a working majority in the House. (The best case scenario is likely only losing 30-35 seats, maintaining a bare majority that hinges on very conservative Blue Dogs from the South.)

I would love to be optimistic, but I would have to ignore all the evidence to be optimistic.

18. I say we stand pat in the Senate and pick up seats in the House.
Florida will have a Dem governor and, with a small amount of luck, two Dem Senators.
