Report: Washington, Baltimore Drivers Worst In US

WASHINGTON (AP) ― A new report says the nation's capital has the worst drivers in the country, followed by Baltimore.

According to Allstate's Best Drivers Report, Washington came in last, for the third year in a row. D.C. drivers get into a collision on an average of about once every five years, and have a 95.5 percent higher chance of being in an accident than the average American motorist.

The report listed Baltimore as the second-worst city for drivers, for the second consecutive year. Its drivers are in a crash about every five and a half years and have a 79.4 percent higher chance of being in an accident.

Fort Collins, Colo., was named this year's "Safest Driving City," with the average driver there getting in a crash about every 14 and a half years. That's about 31 percent less likely than the national average.

7. Well you know what --when you have to drive
bumper to bumper traffic on the Beltway on Thanksgiving Eve you know it is bad. About ten years ago I used to drive the Beltway and I had no problem because I was used to it. But now with living in a place where the four lane highway is wide open most of the time, I think I would have a heart attack if I had to drive on the Baltimore or Washington Beltway again. And bumper to bumper traffic on a Beltway, that's true and I would always cringe that no body stopped quick. Another thing from Silver Spring to Front Royal Va it is about a 30 to 45 minute drive during the day. But after five thirty it take four hours to get from Front Royal to Silver Spring.

8. Minneapolis drivers are the worst in America.
I don't think anybody there has ever heard of speed limits, stop signs, or merging right-of-ways.

9. DC metro area has an inadequate freeway system.
and DC itself has a terrible signage problem, roads in very poor condition, unexplained and unwarned closures.

The volume of traffic is as bad as Los Angeles during rush hour. LA has bad traffic much time outside of rush hour, though.

There are many diplomatic drivers who have no legal liability here. They can and do anything that they want.
