Jet Blue: No Second Chance For Famed Attendant

Sometimes there's no going back.

JetBlue Airways says that there will be no second exits for famed flight attendant Steven Slater - who captured the nation's imagination with his profanity-laced loudspeaker tirade and jump down a plane's emergency chute, beer in hand.

Spokeswoman Jenny Dervin said Saturday that Slater is no longer employed by the airline. She said the airline won't release further details out of respect for Slater's privacy.

Slater's lawyer had said he loved flying and wanted to return to work, and Slater's folk-hero status among tens of thousands of online fans had led some of them to urge the airline to keep him on.

2. I hope he gives a special on surviving
My mom was a flight attendant - and despite all of what you hear, they are trained in survival, if the plane goes down, if something goes down....

http://www.eurweb.com/?p=46905 and she eventually turned her life around. I think Steven Slater will be just fine.

4. Good. While I enjoyed what he did as a fellow worker,I don't want any loose cannons when I'm flying.

6. I agree...
while it felt really good to live vicariously for a moment in this guys shoes, it was a crazy stunt and the guy never had a chance of getting his job back, or of getting one with another airline.

He needs to parlay his 15 into a new career...

8. What about this whole incident makes you think...
the wealthy would want to hire him to work their private jets? Just curious... The rich and powerful expect obedience to their whims and wishes, after all. I doubt they would tolerate such independence.

9. No surprise. And I don't blame them.
Even though I absolutely sympathize with what he did. I'm a former (10 years at DCA) ticket agent, and given how much worse working conditions are for all airline employees compated to when I worked, I'm somewhat surprised that nothing quite like this had happened before.

He ought to be able to get a book and maybe a movie deal and if he's even half way presentable in public could go on speaking tours.
