Happy Labor Day - Now bend over America
Perhaps I'm overly cynical but I see our USA as a nation that is governed for the interests of a few - corporations, banks, and the ultra rich and that overriding philosophy now extends into both Parties.

The Republicans have had that philosophy for decades. They never pretended to be anything but a Party for the rich. The Democratic Party has evolved though from a solidly pro-labor Party, to one that now has both a pro-corporate taint with pro-labor/average American as a sideline.

Somewhere along the line, big money interests (i.e. the plutarchy = plutocracy+oligarchs) got their hooks solidly into our system of governance. Both Parties were instrumental in selling out the economy and working class via free but one way trade. The agenda is really about more money for a few, while politics and ideology are thrown in by the master manipulators (or are they master-baiters) to divide and control the masses. They use the right wing / left wing divide because it keeps the serfs distracted from the money grab by those could care less about Party, politics or ideology. To them it is all about $$$$$.

George Carlin RIP described the plutarchy well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acLW1vFO-2Q (push it to > 1 million views)

How do we fix it? Since we can't depend on finding or electing politicians that unabashedly have the interest of average Americans, the only possible solution is to add offsetting political influence to the plutarchy. When organized labor had significant political influence (and there was corruption there too) it contained and offset the enormous power of the plutarchy. The Democratic Party was the Party of average people only because organized labor had big influence in the Party. The elite (even those in the Democratic Party) fully understand this and that is why they vehemently oppose anything such as "card check" or the Employee Free Choice Act that would expand labor influence and cut their clout. Offsetting power scares them to death.

We need "card check" to get us back on a road to recovery and reverse the trend to serfdom. The strongest and fairest economies in Europe all have strong organized labor.
