Ugly Americans: For Those Who Identify With the Tea Baggers….
Ugly? Indeed. Americans? I’m not so sure. You decide whether the Tea Parties represent you and your country. Hint: would you be proud to have your mother see you acting like this? Is this the way you want your children to remember you?

I. Sept. 2009 “It’s Your Fault!”

For those of you who thought that disease strikes at random, the Tea Baggers have news for you. If you develop a crippling disease such as multiple sclerosis it is your own fault . God hates you. That is why he made you sick.

Video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNusDI9JwoQ

Misinformed and angry teabagger protesters of health care reform reached a new low during a recent town hall meeting held by Congressman Frank Pallone (D-NJ), when an angry mob heckled a woman in a wheelchair. The woman was telling her congressman of her plight, where she was afraid of losing her home because of crippling prescription medication costs.

Snip

One woman stood to ask for help saying her disabled daughter was dropped from her blind husband’s insurance plan. One angry protester shouted, “It’s your fault!"

II. Nov. 2009 “The Chicago Tea Party leader claimed her group did not want to be subjected to personal stories illustrating the suffering of the uninsured.”

You thought sick folks without insurance are the victims? No, the victims are those who are forced to hear about the suffering of sick folks without insurance. Why should they have to interrupt their happy little lives worrying about the plight of their less fortunate neighbors?

Video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dl5Jo0GnX-k&feature=player_embedded

Dan and Midge Hough stood to tell their story of a tragic personal loss they attribute to lack of health insurance. Their pregnant daughter-in-law, twenty-four-year old Jennifer, was uninsured and she was unable to afford proper prenatal care. When she was hospitialized with double pneumonia, it quickly developed into septic shock and other complications. Her baby died in her womb and Jenny died weeks later. She left behind her husband and two-year-old child.
As Midge Hough began to tell the audience of her loss, with tears in her eyes, several people in the audience, who were members of the Chicago Tea Party Patriots began to roll their eyes, laugh out loud and shout at her. “You can laugh at me, that’s okay. But I lost two people, and I know you think that’s funny, that’s okay."

III. March 2010 “I’ll decide when to give you money!”

Tea bagger do not object to taking care of the chronically ill. They just want to decide which chronically ill people will get taken care of and which will die. You know, death panels.

Video:
http://blogs.alternet.org/speakeasy/2010/03/17/disgusting-tea-party-protesters-heckle-man-with-parkinsons/

At an anti health reform rally in Columbus yesterday, Tea Partiers demonstrated why they should be taken seriously as a populist movement by heckling a man who carried a sign claiming he suffers from Parkinsons.
A video shows the man sitting down in front of a group of protesters. “If you’re looking for a handout, you’re in the wrong part of town! Nothing for free here, you have to work for everything you get!” says one guy. Then, some khaki-clad dick saunters over, flings some money at the protester and smarmily says “I’ll pay for this guy. Here you go. Start a pot.” He circles back around to scream, “I’ll decide when to give you money!” Someone yells something about communism. Someone else screams, “No more handouts!!!”

IV.Jenny

Jenny is one of the people the Tea Baggers do not want to hear about. A hard working, middle aged American, she married the wrong guy. Yeah, that’s right. Everything that follows is her own fault . The abuse started slowly, as it always does. First, her new husband persuaded her to quit her job (giving up her health insurance) and let him support him. Good old fashioned Christian values? No, he wanted her as dependent as possible, so that he would have a punching bag that could not talk back.

At first, she tried to be a good wife, the way that her pastor told her. Then, after a broken arm, she realized that she would never be "good" enough to suit her husband. She made several attempts to get away. He always found her and beat the shit out of her. Finally, after he broke her neck by throwing her down a flight of stairs, she realized that divorcing him was less risky than staying with him.

Unfortunately, he still considers her his property, decree or no decree, and she has to change residences frequently. Because of permanent nerve injury from her broken neck, she can no longer use her right arm and she is in constant pain. Unable to work, she can barely afford to pay her rent. Her savings are almost depleted. Health care is just a dream.

When Jenny notices a left breast lump, she tells herself that it could not be cancer. Not after all that she has already suffered. But just in case, she decides to see a doctor. Her bank account is now completely depleted, so she has to save up money for the doctor’s visit, plus an extra $100 to pay for a mammogram. Unfortunately, after talking to the doctor, she discovers that she will need a diagnostic mammogram and that test will cost more. So, she cuts back on her food budget---the only flexible part of her monthly spending--- until she has enough saved for the test. When the mammogram comes back normal, she breaths a big sigh of relief. She almost decides to cancel her follow up visit with the doctor, in order to save money to pay the light bill. But then she thinks, if that slowly enlarging breast lump is not a tumor, what is it? She sees the doctor again and is told that in rare situations cancer will not show up on a mammogram, she now she will need a biopsy---

Biopsy? How much? $3000 ! All that money to make sure that her lump is benign? But her mammogram is normal! Where is she going to come up with $3000?

She agonizes over how she will pay for the procedure. In the meantime, the lump steadily increases in size. Finally, her aunt (on Social Security) is able to scrape together the money. The biopsy shows cancer. Around this time, Jenny wins her appeal of her Social Security disability denial, and because her disability is back dated to her neck injury, she gets her Medicare card at the same time. Good thing, too, because there is no way she could pay for a mastectomy and lymph node dissection. The good news? After a year of delays, she is finally getting medical treatment. The bad news? Her lymph nodes test positive. And there is a spot on her lung. The oncologist advises her to be upbeat, but she does a little reading and discovers that she will be lucky to live two more years, the last few months of that in agony. If the tumor had been removed when she first noticed it, it is likely that she would have survived the disease...

Good thing Tea Baggers do not read Democratic Underground. I would not want to burden them with Jenny’s suffering. And I would not want poor Jenny to have to endure their taunts and scorn, their shouts of

It’s her own damn fault! and We don't care!

10. I am at a total loss...
how is it possible that so many Americans seem to have checked their brains into lay-away plans?

The Republican Party...the same ones who drove the country not into a ditch but off of a goddamn cliff...the same ones who STILL want "credit" for Iraq and Afghanistan as if killing nearly 4,500 American servicemen and women is worthy of getting "atta-boys"...the same ones who cozy up to these "TEA PARTY" subhumans at every chance...THAT party is poised to GAIN seats in the US House and Senate?

Its so far beyond sad that I can't even fathom it. We really DO have an education crisis in America because this nation is choking to death on village idiots and their easily deceived kinfolk...

Their beliefs (or symptoms) may be intellectually worse than those
of the Calvinists. Either way, it's damn scary for America. It's a theological "bubonic plague".

4. Jenny's story should be spread far and wide
By the way, with insurance, it's just as bad. I'm still trying to pay for a "false test" from last year regarding my mammogram. My mammogram had nothing on it, but the doctor said I needed another test as well as a sonogram. Where do they think we would get the money to pay for all of that?? I had to go to a specialist who told me that there was nothing wrong - only an over-anxious lab tech. Again more money that I didn't have with a crappy insurance plan to boot.

22. I feel you
I have health insurance -- $75 is deducted from every paycheck to pay for it ($2k per year) -- but I also have a $2,000 deductible. I was scheduled for a uterine biopsy & ablation procedure a month ago. The afternoon before it was schedule to happen, my doctor finally clued in to the fact that that 2k deductible I TOLD her about would apply to HER. Her office called to tell me to show up at such-and-such time in the morning, oh and be sure to have a check for $2200 in my hand when I got there. When I told them I wouldn't be able to pay that much -- that I would need to make a partial payment & pay the balance off over the next few months -- they cancelled the appointment and told me to call them back when I had saved up enough to pay for it. Yeah, not bloody likely. I will eventually receive the treatment, but this doctor -- who has not even followed up with me once or offered me ANY alternatives in the interim -- will NOT be doing it.

So, yeah, just like so many others, I'm left to *hope* that those fibroids really are just fibroids (and not something that's going to kill me) and that I don't develop anemia (and the complications that can result from it) due to menorrhagia before I can save up $2,200. Of course, if I develop symptoms that are "life threatening" enough to send me to an ER, then they will have to treat me and work out a payment plan. <rolling eyes>

5. These, and other people are the very essence of evil...
if there is some karmic justice in this universe, a way where things come up well, even after agony that defies description, I truly hope that Teabaggers and the "others", ah hell, just call them what they are, Republicans, get their just deserts in this life. I don't want to wait for some form of justice in the "next" life, if there is such a thing, I will personally buy an extra ton of coal for hell, just so these hypocrites can burn longer and hotter.

11. If I had a rocket launcher....
As usual, great post McCamy.

I've been thinking about this song a lot recently and it is very appropriate music to go with this OP. I sums up how I think about these subhumans who are so calous. I work in the medical field and it is a daily shit storm of watching how the insurance treat people like disposable garbage.

A bit of background about the song - it is about Bruce's experiences in Guatemala and the military strikes on refugee camps with attack helicopters. But I think that the sentiment is appropriate for this post.

Enjoy and then think about the lyrics and decide if you are going to do something. It's past time we made a stand. If I had a rocket launcher ... some sonovabitch would die.

When they start behaving like this, then their contract has been voided and they can be forced to leave. I am absolutely done with this kind of abusive behavior.

And then post the results to you tube with their name, address, email and phone number.

Trust me when I say that the insurance companies will take care of the rest for you. Insurance company employees would eat their own children if the corporation told them to. They will research and find any reason to pre-existing condition their ass until 2014 and then they will simply premium them out of existance after that.

On a related subject, I don't have medical insurance and can't afford any policy because of pre-existing conditions. And the price (already at 24K a year) is going up every time I check. Here's my point - if the corporcrats in washington fine me for not "getting" overpriced useless insurance I will refuse. They can jail me, but this is my line in the sand.

15. Americans in 2010
Are divided into about 10% teabaggers, who mistakenly thing they are the real Americans, and real Americans, the other 90%. We need to be clear who we are when speaking to foreign friends who hear noise and think the loudest must mean the important ones. We must remind them that loud in America usually means dumb and weak.

18. Vote! Vote! Vote! Vote! Vote! Vote! Vote! Vote! Vote!
PLEASE don't cut off your noses to spite your faces! We NEED one another to remain in a position to create change. If it's not what you want, but is better, vote for it in order to keep things moving in a positive direction. The teabaggers are just the fringe element of the GOP that is enough of a circus to keep the attention away from the slow progress we're making. But if all the Democrats who are angry about not getting what we'd like to have sit on our hands come election day, this kind of thing won't be the fringe, it'll be the norm. Why? Because SSI will run out, disability will be tied up in bullshit, what reform there is in health care will be rescinded, and once again corporations will pillage this country as though it was just their own little strip mine. Hell, when we're used up there are plenty of other populations whose heads of state they can co-opt.

KEEP THE BASTARDS OUT! VOTE!

Edited on Wed Sep-08-10 10:31 AM by TwilightGardener
because they want to believe that everything in life can be controlled, or is in God's hands (meant to be), or has direct and foreseen cause and effect. Life is too unacceptably scary and unpredictable otherwise, and can shake even a good Christian's faith. These are really childish people, never got beyond 5th grade mentally and emotionally.
