John Lennon's killer denied parole..

Mark David Chapman, convicted of killing John Lennon in 1980, was denied parole Tuesday by a three-member panel of New York Parole Board commissioners following an interview, a board spokesman said.

“A three-member panel of Parole Board Commissioners denied parole to Mark David Chapman following an interview with Chapman this morning," the New York State Parole Board said in a statement. "Chapman, an inmate at Attica Correctional Facility, was interviewed via video conference link by the Parole Board Commissioners from an office in Rochester."

Chapman is next eligible for a parole interview in August 2012.

3. That's a bit extreme, onehandle
I think keeping him in prison will be quite sufficient as punishment.

9. The op may have been reminding us what Chapman did to Lennon

Chapman shot Lennon in the back with 5 shots.

2. I doubt he will ever be released
I don't support capital punishment, but this case truly tested me. Some wounds never heal. I can still remember exactly where I was and what I was doing, when a friend called me to say he was dead. I told her she must be mistaken. They must have said Jack Lemon, not John Lennon. It is one of those burned memories.

5. Yeah, he should be institutionalized for the rest of his life
with no possibility of parole.

While I'm sure he's fairly reasonable on medication, he's someone who would be dangerous enough should he decide to try to go off it that he's a public health and safety hazard.

Whether it's a prison mental facility or facility for the criminally insane, that's where he belongs.

unlike you, I'm not opposed to capital punishment...and I think Chapman would have made a prime candidate for it's use.

14. So you support executing the mentally ill?
I know one thing, John Lennon would not have supported executing him.

16. While I'm sure there are mitigating circumstances
in some cases, overall, as a general principle, I'm not opposed to the death penalty. IMO, if you intentionally take a life, you should pay with your own. Simple as that.

17. I agree with you, Upton.
As it is, keeping this dirtbag in jail for the rest of his life is the next-best option.

I don't think John Lennon himself would have supported his execution, but I don't have to be that noble.

13. I'm sorry but why put his picture up ?
That is what these stalker psycho types live for -- to have their name and face paired with someone who was great.

I prefer to refer to him as "that loser a-hole that shot Lennon in the back."
