There are TWO CHOICES in November
1. We put the car in Drive (D) and move forward,

or

2. We put the car in Reverse (R) and back it back into the ditch!

5. That is the problem with alot of folks on this site -
you have blinders on.

How about we rock that car, smash it, and take over ourselves.

9. Hey, when you can figure out a way to do that let us know.
I'm very unhappy with the lack of progress with the Democrats, but I don't want the Republicons back in because things will be worse with them. It's a lesser of two evils option, which I hate, but no one seems to have any specific actions we can take that might fix things.

I'd like to see more Alan Graysons, Anthony Weiners, Barbara Boxers, Al Frankens, etc. That would be a good start.

11. Strikes, marches, we need to get organized -
most recently I'm annoyed by the strike at the Mott plant in NY. Support the strikers and pass on Dr. Pepper and Snapple right now along with Mott products.

18. Yeah, I buy Dr. Pepper from time to time. It's on the boycott list now.
Along with Target, and others.

That's outrageous what they're doing at that Mott plant.

20. we cannot even get enough people out to vote
or interested in voting, and you think that we are gonna do something with marches and strikes. In this economy? Strikes?

21. Historically marches/strikes have been more effective
at bringing change than voting.

24. really? So the election of FDR did not bring the New Deal
and the election of Lincoln did not bring the Civil War?

Also seems to me that Reaganomics was accomplished by voting.

25. FDR only passed the New Deal legislation because there
was a strong left at that time, and yes they marched. Slavery as an issue preceeded Lincoln's presidency. Yes he was there when it finally culminated in war, but he was not the first to speak out about slavery by any means.

As for Reaganomics - perhaps that wes accomplished by voting. That's not a very good argument to encourage folks to trust the voting booth.

7. We can keep things mostly the same or let things get much, much worse.
Realistically, actual progress does not appear likely.

16. Right. I still think the fillibuster is unconstitutional.
The Constitution requires equal representation of states in the Senate. The fillibuster, especially the mere procedural fillibuster, is designed to give a minority of senators power over the majority.

8. we hear a lot of griping on DU
about how the dems have failed us and they're not gonna vote ....

Yeah, I know. I'm pissed-off and disappointed too.

But here's your choice:
Go to the polls, vote for the least offensive candidate. Usually, that's a Democrat.
Stay home, that's equivalent to casting a vote for the vilest filthiest candidate on the ballot.

Except for a few gems like Bernie and Dennis, most other national office-holders are a total FAIL. If you want to affect real "change," do it at the community level. If we're successful, the right kind of people will make their way up to higher office and eventually change the national system. It's slow, you'll have to be patient and nurture the movement. If you don't care for local politics, do something else that has a positive effect on your community. Compassion and generosity are contagious.

Give the future generations of real progressives a chance by keeping the door slightly open for them. Vote Democrat.

26. There are 2 choices
Democrats(Jedi) Republicans(Sith) and in the end the "jedi" will always win because the "sith" will always tear themselves from within, when one "lord" feels he deserves more power then everyone else. But truely I beleave that if the republicans even split the 2 houses it can help us in 2012 because hopefully it will remind people why they didnt vote for republicans in 2008.
